I struggle to remember my first BL manga. When I started reading manga, the internet wasn't as widespread (year 2000. Yes I'm old lol) , and the way to find new stories was through zip files (usually raw and poor quality ;u; ) downloaded via eMule or licensed copies (and there wasn't much of BL at that time). If you were lucky, a store might have i......   reply

Technically not Yaoi, it was Touya and Yukito(Yue) from Card Capter Sakura.   reply

This was the first yaoi I had ever read. Shit is so ass. I refuse to believe I used to tug at my hair while waiting for a new chapter each week. The story also probably made my hair fall out I think...As I’m writing this I believe I have found another reason to blame for my balding head. It’s only impact was to my balding head. I’m so sed. my first yaoi was the manhua Here U Are!!! i didn't know i was queer then, and i stopped reading because the homophobia themes scared me LOL (it was too heavy for little old teen me i guess!). i still haven't finished it to this day, but it was such a formative read for me especially since it was my first exposure to queer media of any kind that ac......   reply

If i'm not mistaken, my fist yaoi was the anime adaptation of Junjou Romantica. Nowadays I don't think it's that good lol but I still hold it close to my heart. For a queer otaku teen in the 2010's, discovering it was ground breaking.IRL classmates would pester me asking "do you like dick or pussy?" and "are you gay or normal?". It was a nightmare. I didn't understand my it was such a big deal and why I needed to even choose.

While I did enjoy watching shoujo, I just couldn't see myself in them. But watching a love story between two guys changed everything. It was weird at first, I felt as if I was watching something imoral. But on the other hand, it was comforting. For the first time I really wanted to live a love story i was watching.

As for yuri, I think my first (and only for a long time) was Renai Idenshi XX. I didn't get into yuri at all but I looooved this manga. Recently reread it and to me its pretty obvious why it was the only yuri I liked at the time. In this manga all men died and the government created the Eden project, where some women would be assigned Adams and live as men. The main couple is between two adams who fall in love, even tho it's prohibited. It was probably the first time I thought "damn, it DOES suck to be forced into a gender at birth" lol

So basically yaoi and yuri where CRUCIAL for me to start exploring gender and sexuality.

(Idk I just want to talk about anything other than the lists vanishing. I'm also sad but all we can to now is wait, hope for the best and enjoy it in the meantime!)

Manhwa cause manga's might my eyes hurt. they always have a bright ass white background and the small dialogue you gotta zoom in and squint just to read.   reply

manhwa bc i feel like skorea in general is stepping it up and is much more progressive. this applies to shoujo and yaoi btw. like specifically for yaoi, there are still the yaoi staples of SA and rape, but u can also find plenty of manhwa that doesnt have that (even for a slop). in comparison w manga, there are even less of that. like in general th......   reply
