All genres have something hella problematic. The main issue here is that they are fetishizing people just bc they like the same gender. This is especially true for fujos. While it isn't a good thing, there's not much that can be done about problematic fans of any genre.

I'm not sure about the empowering part because empowerment can come from anything or anyone, even from your worst enemy's shit. Empowerment is for everyone, so if ladies are empowered by reading LGBT stories, there's nothing wrong with that.
