Both, actually. Positive impact is learning a lot of things that I actually don't learn IRL. Stuff about how workplace scenarios take place, about dealing with issues about yourself, your family, your dreams, etc. Relating to the characters gives me comfort because it's not just happening to me, or I'm not the only person going through something. The rape trope. I fucking hate it. Like rape isn't romantic, it's not cute. Why do mangakas often tend to take that route?? NO! Plot-wise, a lot of yaoi stories are good that you'd want to re-read them a lot of times. And the fact that BL authors never run out of new ideas for their works is amazing.
