Most girls who read BL/Yaoi aren't "fetishizing" gay relationships. They enjoy the idea of romance, but most don't look into straight romance because when there's a girl involved they start to self insert. In a BL comic there's no girl, meaning no need to feel concerned. Another point to come across is two guys. Girls obviously like guys, whether y...... 1 reply
Let's first say this: fetishizing is never a positive thing, no matter what we're talking about. So yeah, I think some people can obsess over yaoi and get a really wrong idea of the world it should represent.
But... well, personally, I was actually drawn in by the first BL stories I read and that's how I came to know more about the LGBT community (...... reply
I think that yaoi does largely misrepresent the lgbtq+ community. It is used to appeal to women who enjoy male/male relationships, which is made glaring obvious by the fact that the genre “bara” exists. I never think of yaoi as a representation of the LGBT community, never in a million years although I love to read yaoi myself. Furthermore I think very few anime or manga can represent their genre in reality because most of them are just the mangaka's imagination about the world that he/she dreams of, not the real one they're living in. So how can ...... reply
I feel about Yaoi and other media content with homosexual relationships displayed as I feel about all of those things (hetero, non hetero, etc..), I See It, I Like It, I Support It. reply
