Yisss, lots of people surrounding me know. My mom (who isn't huge on it but also has her occasional boyxboy ships when we watch an anime together), legit all of my friends (they also read it), and a cousin of mine. My dad hasn't really found out, and neither has my older sister -- I don't plan on telling them lol. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ 2 reply

The only people that know is my friends that understands me (because I'm weird) but not my regular friends my anime/manga friends. When they ask what I watch or read I tell them and they say what type is it then I explain and get overly excited just from talking about it. I'm Pansexual (but they think I'm just bisexual still) and they say what abou...... 1 reply
My boyfriend knew but then he broke up with me. Not that he hated it, but I think I was becoming someone he wasn't interested in. Definitely can't look at yaoi or any romantic thing for a while now... but I'll be BACK dammit!

I wouldn't let family know I read yaoi, they don't know me well enough and it would confuse them, and I don'...... reply
Yeah, it's fine, but in Japan Otaku means this: Otaku is also defined in Japan as a word that defines a person who has obsessive interests, and can apply to a wide variety of topics, including anime, manga, cosplay, collectibles and more. (http://geekout.blogs.cnn.com/2011/09/12/otaku-is-it-a-dirty-word/) Also, I've heard it's mostly shunned to be ...... reply
Keep in mind an otaku is not a positive or endearing term in Japan. One shouldn't strive to be one either, it's cool to be passionate about anime/manga/cosplay/figures/etc. but for it to consume your life and you start staying indoors all the time, don't socialize and the sorts is not a good lifestyle. As people who are not Japanese, we romanticize...... reply
Only two of my friends know. I introduced one of them to yaoi (I made her watch Sekaiichi Hatsukoi (=・ω・=)) and it seemed she liked it. Now she's starting to see yaoi in her favorite shônen mangas XD Regarding my other friend, well... When I'm starting to talk about yaoi, she makes an annoyed face. And when I have yaoi-talk with my other fr...... reply
A 12 yr old girl...
We were talking about anime and manga when she started talking about how she ships Hinata and Kageyama and more yaoi couples...
She said it so freely that I was a bit shocked (; ̄ェ ̄)

I think being an Otaku has nothing to do with ONLY watching anime. As an Otaku you can like so much more than just that, like games and stuff. As long as you don't become a weeaboo it's fine to like whatever you do. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Personally, I really love anime and reading manga, but I'm not into Cosplay or Dramas, etc. I still really enjoy ja...... 2 reply
I mean I like anime and manga(mmm baby yaoi) yeah, but I'm also into dramas. Japanese, korean, chinese, taiwanese etc. Soooo...no?
I think your idea of otaku is a little unrealistic. Even someone who is a completely socially inept recluse will likely have an interest outside of anime. My question is are you? What prompted you to ask this question? reply
