Fujoshis & Other Things
I’ve never posted a question on here but I think this still falls under the guidelines considering I want to talk about things that happen in mangas, manhwas etc.
I want to talk to anyone who may be a self proclaimed fujoshi on here and see why u proclaim yourself as that as well as the connotations that surround fujoshis.
The next question I have is for anyone in general about how you guys feel about the normalization of rape, forced coercion, dubious consent, and other things of this nature in mangas, manhwas etc.
These types of things happen very often in stories and as a gay man who consumes these things in hopes of seeing a representation of myself in entertainment it can make me upset and also sad that this is what is in a good majority of stories that I see. That there are things that are just glossed over that are not okay. That people tend to excuse it and maybe see it as normal ? because of how often they see it. Letting it go because it’s fiction or that’s just BL.
Even as fictional things it hurts to see these things because people might view this as some type of reality that you imagine this to be what love between two men or any lgbt couple looks like, when that is definitely not the case.
I want to have conversations about this with people who also consume this type of media as well, please tell me what you think and why?
I read yaoi's with rape, abuse and murder. But not once in my life have I seen any of this as acceptable. In my opinion, raping someone is the absolute worst thing you can do. I find rapists absolutely disgusting. However, when I read yaoi, I do not see the characters as real people, or as an representation. Just merely as drawings. I do not justif...... 4 reply
I might not be the target audience of your question but I always wanted to let out my opinion, ignore me if you wish. What is yaoi to me? I am gay guy here and I enjoy getting a laugh out of yaoi. Yes, I laugh when I read yaoi because that is exactly how I view them. Nothing more than fictional entertainment for horny people. Unlike *many* of the s...... 5 reply
I myself proclaimed as a fujoshi simply because I love reading bl/yaoi. This is what a fujoshi means to me, just someone who enjoy bl/yaoi content. About the (bad) connotation that surround the word fujoshi, well it's just that there are many minors who are reading yaoi with such theme (rape etc...) and don't think about how it's wrong in real life...... 1 reply
The term fujoshi was originally a term misogynist used as a way of saying the a woman that enjoys BL is no good for marriage. The term was reclaim by the community to give the word less power over them. I use it because, if others are foolish enough to assume that all fujoshis are like the stereotype, what can I really do? I read yaoi because I rel...... 1 reply
I considered myself a fujoshi for a few years. I did so because I simply enjoyed reading BLs and i was a young teen that liked belonging to a group. I can proudly say that I never strayed too far and content that normalizes rape and the like has always disgusted me, but i still got deep into the rabbithole of yaoi and because i was too young to pro...... 1 reply
I'm a gay dude and I like to consume content related to gay people. Someone once told me the people who write these stories in the first place only make it that way because that's how they view gay relationships. I've always disliked the people who consume this type of content and use it as a fetish because they like the idea of another man raping/...... 1 reply
i'm also a gay dude who reads for entertainment (since there isn't much gay media, the only one with an overwhealming amount is fanfics)
i'd like to say that pretty much most readers actively hate rape/non-con/dub-con/sexual assault, but i just get a bit confused when i see people's top reccomendations having exactly that (and they don't warn peo...... 3 reply
I don't consider myself a fujoshi because that would be saying I'm a rotten girl, and, well, I'm not.
I do read yaoi but I also read your and straight stuff too, I just regard it as normal romance. However, when it has rape or I see the beginning of a relationship I won't like, I simply stop reading.
I do admit that I was really into incest for s...... reply
I’m a fujoshi cause... idk I like yaoi. Maybe because I don’t like seeing boobs lol. I mean that literally, I don’t li,e seeing boobs shoved in my face in anime’s.... idk I just like it. Jut like how I like any other genre of manga/manhwa/manhua .
The normalization of rape? I mean, in like real life hell no rape ain’t good, but in some s...... 1 reply
