HAVING A PHOBIA

Golden Zebra Golden Zebra 2017-06-19 00:41:37 About phobiaaaaa
The dangers of Self-Diagnosing... and the internet...

Please don't SELF DIAGNOSE yourself and call your PET PEEVE, a 'PHOBIA'. PHOBIA is more extreme than FEAR or annoyance or anxiousness... and I think that's belittling the REAL people who have REAL phobias who are struggling everyday.

A PHOBIA is an EXTREME irrational fear which is MEDICALLY DIAGNOSED by a doctor! These are treated with MEDICATION, COUNSELLING OR THERAPY!!!

Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy simply to be normal - Albert Camus

I Just ought to share some information.

When you selfdiagnose, you are essentially ASSUMING that you know the subtleties that diagnosis constitutes. People can search anything in the internet nowadays and accept it without second thought or reference whether it's true or not. So, my point is, if you really want to know if you have a phobia(legit illness), consult a doctor, not the internet.

One difference of fear and phobia is 'danger'. Having a phobia can be dangerous because people can do ANYTHING just to get away from... holes, patterns, spiders, butterflies, darkness, needles... even if it means putting themselves into more dangerous situations.

If this error be upon me prove, I never writ nor no man ever feared.

I agree with this quite a bit. I was diagnosed with my Thanatophobia at 8 and took therapy. It does help to some degree but it really doesn’t take away the anxiety. Even me writing this comment is probably going to cause me to be anxious for a while. Though I am glad you said this I feel like before I was diagnosed if I hadn’t realized my fear was extreme then it might not have been found out in the first place.
