Living in Japan...is not as good as everyone thinks.

ゆかりちゃん ゆかりちゃん 2016-05-23 15:23:34 About live in another country
Hey! I'm originally from the Philippines :) I'm half japanese and half Filipino so, sorry if my English isnt that good.╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ At first, knowing that we're going to live in Japan was very exciting to me. (๑•ㅂ•)و✧ Well, who wouldnt be excited, right? Even though I knew that we're gonna live in the rural part of Japan, I was very excited. I'm not really expecting that my life would be like an anime. (But deep inside, I was hoping it would be ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄ イケメンといっしょににデートしたな~ (/TДT)/ ) Of course, I already studied some basic japanese while i was still in the Philippines so it wouldnt be difficult to engage in convo with the people here. And of course, kanji is my enemy while studying japanese. I wasnt really studying kanji much when I was still in the Philippines so my kanji isnt really good when i got here. (Even right now! Still not good in kanji (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜) So I went to a school where you can learn basic japanese. I graduated there and went to a real school. There are a LOT of foreigners living in here. Especially, Brazilian and Filipinos.外国人いっぱいいるよ~ At first, I was REALLY REALLY excited for my first day of school. Even though I enrolled in the middle of August. (School in here starts in April ╥﹏╥) I was excited to meet my new classmates. I was bullied. There are also Filipinos there and ALL of them got bullied. Every time I go to bed, I just cry my eyes out. I dont know what to do. I dont know if I should say it to my mom or not. My fellow filipino friend even got punched. So, I decided to tell my mom. She contacted the school about the things that they had done and said to me. いつも”キモイ”って言うんだよ。もうなれてる。 I didnt go to school for how many days. I did but like, once a week? I dont even have energy to go to school. I didnt attend the graduating ceremony of our 3rd year senpais. 先輩!ごめんね~( ̄∇ ̄") But good thing that I have friends to make me laugh every time (≧∀≦) Im really thankful that this year's class is very friendly (▰˘◡˘▰) Now, I feel welcomed ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄

P.S. Its not just a bunch of anime stuff here. Its also a bunch of covenience stores ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

I'm saddened by your story, but at the same time it's not surprising at all, especially since it concerns Japan... Such a "closed" country, even though they have opened themselves to the rest of the world a long time ago... It's in their blood, I guess. I often read that foreigners don't have it easy there, but, just like in any place and/or country in the world, there are always good and bad people. Take your classmates' example: the first ones you dealt with were worthless, but the ones you have now are nice, right?
I have also dealt with bullying before (when I was younger, although very light). It happens all over the world, sadly, and is an unfortunate result of adolescence, what with teenagers seeking acceptance among their peers and whatnot, which results in having their aim set on the people that always seem a bit different...
What I always did was simply ignore them and, over time, they started to ignore me too (yay!) - however, things would have been different if the bullying was of a different level... I was also lucky because I always had nice (although noisy) people in my class and I could always talk to the teachers - it's also a lucky thing that I live in such an open and forward country, which is the total opposite of Japan.
I wish you the best of luck and, if people start bothering you again, give them the infallible DEATH-GLARE!
Or, you know, talk to your family :D

Bullies got nothing on you! (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

Thank you very much (=・ω・=) I think that some of my old classmates were scared of befriending me because they might also get bullied to because of me. But. past is past. I'll just look forward to the new and fun things in the future (⌒▽⌒)

wow, I saw a lot of anime shows about countryside people being really put off about "outsiders". Like, they're on their own little world, didn't know it still applied 'til now to them, though... (T ^ T) But I hope your situation gets a lot better, since you're still young and it'll help a lot to have a good outlook on life over there.(* ^ *)

Since Im the shy type, its kinda hard to make friends but Im working on it

maa-chan May 23, 2016 11:51 pm

eh? that is... sad. and good (for the ending)! ( ̄∇ ̄)

i have no idea that it would be like that.. wow. most of friends are japanese (who are living abroad), and they are like super nice and friendly.
some of my co-workers are japanese as well, they treat me respectfully i guess. probably because they lived abroad?

but oh well... there are bad people no matter what races or nationality. Σ( ̄□ ̄||)

ゆかりちゃん May 24, 2016 2:01 am

Well, there are some that are really friendly. But there are also A LOT of japanese who are very mean.

otlcryman May 23, 2016 9:07 pm

Oh man... I heard a lot of bad things and It definitely won't stop me from visiting and staying there (to perfect my Japanese). I'm Korean and the relationship Japan has with Korea is awful(from what I've heard). I'm scared if people were to find out I'm Korean I'd have stuff thrown at me ;_;. Most Japanese people are super xenophobic, which is the one of the many things I dislike about Japan. There are plenty of things I love about Japan but Japan is not all sparkles and roses, unfortunately. May I ask how old you are? And why you(or your parents) decided to move there?

ゆかりちゃん May 24, 2016 1:58 am

Well, I am young. Im only 13. We decided to move here cuz my mom said its to experience living in here especially because Im half japanese. My dad is japanese and my mom is filipino. And I also want to meet my dad. I havent seen my dad. We're a broken family. There are a lot of people (same age as me) with the same cases.

takame May 23, 2016 4:56 pm

japan as much as i know is the most xenophobic nation and people.

even here in the philippines the ones that i got to work with talk in japanese (in your face) when yhey don't want other people to understand what they wanted to say.

yukari-chan, is it true that (some) japanese looked at filipinos as some kind of smiling idiot?

ゆかりちゃん May 23, 2016 5:05 pm

Yup. They're kinda sneaky. And out of all the insults that I got so far, the most said word is "kimoi". They say that word so much that I got used to it

*shakes head at the kimoi comment* kids gonna be kids. don't worry you are doing great, you are being more mature than them by ignoring the ones that called you kimoi. hang in there.
the adults are sneaky (imo) since most of them are passive-agressive like that but at least they don't call you kimoi in your face like the brats do.

lenalena May 23, 2016 5:47 pm

I've seen lots of YouTube videos that show random people on the street and they seem to be accepting of foreigners and multiracial kids. But they were in cities.

There are some japanese people who accept multiracial people. But I think their point of view of being multiracial is someone who have blue eyes with fair skin and blonde hair. Im a filipino. We dont have that fair skin, blue eyes and blonde hair. Cuz japanese people have that standards when you say foreigner. Thats what i think. (● ̄(エ) ̄●)

yeah, in the city since they are modernized there but i've read blogs of foreigners (female westeners) who stayed for long in japan and they do encounter culture clash thus feel attacked and treated as a lesser female. of course it's not like everytime, they did have nice friends too.

i am in an opinion that they are fine with visitors/tourists but i don't think they'll be that happy to have you stay for good especially in the countryside. the people in the provinces even won't sell you a property even they all die and turn into a ghost town if you are not from there. (but that's the countryside)

Yogatta wa ne.. you have found some friends who makes you feel welcomed.. bitter part is what you're saying is true...actually, it happens practically anywhere in any country. Stand out / new foreign person are always targeted.. kanashi desu yo ne.. when reality actually is far from our imaginations.. (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ Probably modern kids can't find any other good means to let off their steam..
Regarding nihongo.. the reason I always wanted to learn it is due to my partly-idiotic motive to watch animes and manga in RAW.. haha.. Its hard when you dont have basic knowledge for kata or hira whats more to learn kanji.. So all I have to do is download animes, remember some pronounciations up to download raws manga and translate it myself.. though Im a slow reader cause having trouble to read the kanji strokes..NAHHH... i had help from romaji software as well to help me out in certain sentences.. sometimes I easily confused cause one kanji having different meanings...! ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍ but I have fun once I figure it out..pretty cool once Im able to decode manga bubble dialogue after one another.. HAHA.. Σ(っ°Д °;)っ
Well I hope you having fun and Im sure there r difficulties along the way..Im sure you're realized not all n everyone have an ill intent towards you.. ganbare ne Yukari-chan..

ゆかりちゃん May 23, 2016 4:51 pm

Yup! sugoku ureshii desu. I really am thankful that I have friends who are there for me. And yeah, kanji struggles ╥﹏╥ なんでそんなに難しいなの? (/TДT)/ そちらこそも、頑張って下さい (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
