How do you think yaoi impacted you?

For me, it brought attention to the LGBT community, which I previously never really thought of. It also opened my eyes to a lot of misconceptions, discriminations, and problems there are. Of course, it should be understood that yaoi shouldn't serve as the poster for the LGBT community, nor is it entirely accurate. But it has changed my perspective. With that, I think it has to do a lot with your own personal self and how you respond to things.
Also, is a guilty pleasure for me. I ain't a kinky bean or thirsty nugget. Really. Really. Jokes aside, it goes so much deeper than porn mostly. The art and storyline combine to create masterpieces. There's so much to learn from everything. If you just open your mind, you can find it.
it also made me more aware of the LGBT community! ...however, it also made me aware of the many, many, many traps that people fall into when writing m/m relationships, and how to avoid them.

Honestly I feel the same way. I got introduced to it through Hikaru and Kaoru from ohshc which was even weirder but now I know so much about the gay community since it opened up my eyes and it's fun to read and it's a good thing to have in common with people it also introduced me into some other weird things that I like now but it's fine cause I li...... reply
I think I am being more tolerant to LGBT couples as a straight, even tho I never find one in real life... And after I read the whole mangas I think that we can love everyone without boundaries and I totally love how sweet the couples are Thanks to my friend who introduces me to yaoi and shonen ai in middle school! :3 1 reply
It was introduced to me at a really pivotal time in my life and helped come to terms with my own sexuality. At first I found the porny stuff really overwhelming and a little scary, but reading the more story driven/romantic/sweet stories made me think that it wasn't so scary after all, and eventually that I also wanted a love like that. Yaoi made me realise made me chalenge the way moral restrains us.
For instance, i can't stand shotacon, i don't like rape as part of any storytelling and i really wish it would never be presented as "casual" or used like an escalator to intimacy and even less love. These are moral values that i still want to embrace.

it made me mora aware and interested about the LGBT comunity so much that i'm now part of it cause it made me ask about my sexuality. so even if it's a pleasure to read it also had a big impact on my life reply
Same for me as well prett much, yaoi has opened my eyes to more thorough problems in this world, like people being accepted for being part of the LGBT community. I think without yaoi, I'd probably still be ignorant of homosexuals and probably not think as highly of them as I do now.
