Gay men, tell us if you support yaoi
I have way too many things to say personally so I just wanted to do a little...faux poll? With this question. So, gay men, tell us if you support yaoi or thinks it's fetishizing. And also if you support or don't support women specifically reading it. I, as a pansexual man, personally support yaoi and women reading it. Although I don't know if I can say anything cuz I don't exclusively like men lol
I'm gay? man, honestly, idk how i feel, i feel like the bl genre in general is fetishizing because of who it is catered too? and who is writing most of those stories, however i don't know if i have a problem with women reading BL, as long as the BLs they are reading aren't only catered for women's pleasure, or have super disgusting tropes, also if ...... 4 reply
Absolutely do not support the genre. It was created for problematic reasons, got popular for problematic reasons, and most (non-mlm) people read it for either problematic or just flat out ignorant reasons.
I wouldn't say that I *don't* support women reading it, but I'm not going to pretend that the fetishization issue isn't largely because of the ...... reply
First, people obsess over yaoi, and yet they don't support MLM. Second, I find it okay for people to read yaoi but just stop putting it before every god damn thing. I read BL SL and GL, and I also read things that have nothing to do with romance. I have read a lot of BL, GL, and SL and I can say that BL always has something a more interesting plot....... reply
There’s some hidden gems, I will admit that, but the amount of absolute dog shit you’d have to rummage through to find just *one* decent story is too great for me to say that I support the genre. reply
My real-life gay friend does not support yaoi because he thinks it is not an actual representation of gay men in real life. He prefers books that are made to represent the LGBTQ as:
Boy Erased by Garrard Conley
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda
They Both Die at the End
He doesn't mind st...... 1 reply
I don't really support the genre as a whole but I do support people who do their research before starting their own yaoi. But it does feel kinda weird and fetishizing at some points. Gay relationships are the same as straight relationships just with two people of the same gender and I feel like some comics don't grasp that fully sometimes. reply
I'm gay, and I don't really give a shit about girls reading yaoi. In fact, Me and my sisters read it a lot. I support it because I like it. I personally don't think its fetishizing because the majority don't think it is and most people who read it aren't psycho-fujos. 1 reply
I just learned yaoi isn't a thing anymore, apparently it died out in like the 80s but regarding bl, the majority of them are fetishizing because it's obvious it's for girls with all the tropes they put in there. Also I don't mind women reading bl, just don't get off to it or call it hot. 1 reply
I kind of support. I mean there are str8 relationships depicted unrealistically, I dont get called out by str8 ppl for fetishizing it if i read it. It s this thing that makes gay relationships different to others and separtaes them from str8, when they re actually just like any other relationships. Plus, i do think overall its leading to the norna...... reply
