I read something about how the words such as yaoi, yuri, shounen/shojo ai are outdated in Japan and they have switched to just bl/gl and ever since I was educated on that I've switched also switched to just saying bl/gl. I feel like other people should start using it, cause you know, respect and shit since they made they word. Idk, just food for thought
Idk I don’t really care personally, I use more “BL” because it’s more convenient to use.
If we follow this logic for everything then we should stop using the word “otakus” since in japan it’s supposed to be a negative word ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Calling both yaoi and shounen-ai by the same term, bl, is an awful idea. On what planet does that not lead to unnecessary and, considering the difference in content and what's appropriate for who, potentially harmful ambiguity? reply
Lots of people tend to use the term "BL" now. That's what I use when referring to contemporary works in the genre.
However, when talking about things made before 2008, I tend to still refer to it as "yaoi", as stylistically, it's pretty different compared to contemporary BL. reply
"Yaoi" should be used when talking about non-canon pairings in series that are not in the BL genre like Code Geass or Dragonball Z and the doujinshi and fanart that comes from that. reply
