The wonderful art of Painter of the Night
Hello people! Alright so I was wondering something. In mangago, mangas/webtoons/manhwas are rated and often, those with the highest votes have the prettiest art (and usually they're colorful too) while those with a really old style or with a really "simple" art (like it's not bad but it's not great) are kinda low rated even though the story can be good. So I realized that the drawing actually influenced the votes and how people perceive the story because they'll be like, mesmerized by the art and characters. And for example, many people like potn because the art is pretty and the characters are hot. So here's my question = Would you actually like this yaoi if the art wasn't pretty? Like, would you find this story genuinely enjoyable and interesting if the art was like... you know the really old style yaoi with bad proportions and all this shit?
I'm not looking for a fight, I'm genuinely curious. So please be nice and honest
I genuinely believe that art can make or break a story. the story may be horrible but the art is so good! or in vice versa the story is good but the art is bad. would you read something like this?maybe. but me probably not. 1 reply
I think the problem with older works isn't particullary the art but more the quality of the scanlation & the flow of the panels for me. There are many old mangas that I really love but when I go back to reread I realize how the panel adjustments are not as neat & tidy as todays time & it can get overwhelming really fast.

I love the art of POTN , it's so good ! I always come back to just look at it but when I'm done looking at it I leave and then forget its existence again . reply
Even if the art is bad I get used to it if the plot is good enough to stick around. And I dropped potn also by those old style yaoi, you mean yaoi hands and stuff? I don't read that, cause mostly the plot is bad and the proportions are traumatizing. 1 reply
I mean, I enjoyed Junjou Romantica and their faces look like squares and triangles. It's really hard to find ugly and bad art on mangago, especially since its a mix between yaoi and isekai women. If the plot sounds amusing, then I'll read it. That said, Painter of the Night might look nice but it's absolute shit, idc how great the art is. 1 reply
im a type of person who gets captivated by the art first before i get into the story, so i get deceived a lot by shitty comics with beautiful artstyles. so no, i wouldnt even glance at that comic if the artstyle is that bad even if its story is good lmao 1 reply
I feel like the older yaois with stupid proportions also had a senseless plot to amplify my aversion to it tho. I don't mind good plot with bad art, but if it's the stupid art with yaoi hands like before then I probably won't read it.
Edit: my bad so ya meant potn specifically, I already hate the plot so I do not go near it, if the art was bad I w...... 2 reply
I'll be straightforward to you. I like POTN for two reasons: — historical setting — drawings.
If it wasn't with those drawings and wasn't even historical setting I would've dropped it already. 1 reply
The thing about the art of potn is that its very expressive, you can clearly tell what the characters are thinking just from looking at their face's,the artstyle is very lucid if i should say.And about if i would read it if it had a bad artstyle, probably yes,i like toxic stories with a realistic ending, the author is not an idiot so i think she would...... 1 reply
