Have an unpopular opinion on a (yaoi) manga

chesie chesie 2018-08-31 19:41:24 About unpopular opinion on a manga
I've had many unpopular opinions on manga's, mostly yaoi. i read yaoi, yuri, romance, fantasy, ect. but the fans for yaoi manga are suuper protective and defensive of their manga's. i can almost guarantee you'll get yelled at in the comments for having an "unpopular opinion". would love to know your unpopular opinion on certain manga's of any genre and your experience with sharing it.

just thought of something else but when cishets run around thinking they know everything about being lgbt+ is sO DAMN ANNOYING.
also i've found that a lot of bl fans don't really care about enby (nonbinary) people and as a enby person that's annoying as holy fuck like not everyone is male or female goddamn. a lot of them also equate genitalia with gender, which is also fucked up.

A have like a million complaints about yaoi and fujoshis. I only continue to read yaoi cuz the stories are shorter and don't need a long time to build up like some shoujo. I just want a nice love story.
But the more I read, the more frustrated I get. There are so many manga with dubious consent / rape that it makes me uncomfortable. Or that most couples have a strict top/bottom dichotomy. Where are my versatile ppl at? Real ppl aren't like that.
I also dislike how everyone has sex right after confessing. It seems so rush and they don't let their feelings build.
I hate when ppl say "it's just fiction", like, ppl can internalize things or feel approval for illegal things. Like pedophilia, incest, rape, etc are not just things that happen in fiction.

I try to stay away from any fandoms cuz fujoshis creep me out. Some say they're pro lgbt but really they're just fetishization gay ppl and dehumanizing them. They think they're so progressive just cuz they read yaoi. All they care about is dicks and good looking men fucking.

And apparently yaoi is not even the term Japanese ppl use. They use BL (boys' love) and it feels less dehumanizing(?) cuz yaoi basically means "No peak (climax), no fall (punch line/denouement), no meaning", like obviously the stories we read aren't like that. But everyone still uses yaoi in the English speaking world cuz that's what they learned.....
But I also hate hearing fujoshi say they love reading bl/yaoi cuz u know they're fetishists.

big fat agree with most of this. i don't mind r*pe tropes bc 1, i'm not personally affected by it, and 2, i can separate fiction from reality, but some ppl reALLY can't do that. also, the incest thing is so-so imo like if two cousins or siblings are grown adults and they want to be in a consensual relationship for whatever, let them do what they want, but like when ppl ship actual siblings who aren't like that is disgusting as hell.
and the way these cishet girls run about thinking they know what being lgbt+ is like from reading bl/yaoi/whatever pisses me off so much. like ships and stuff in fandoms are cute, but the fans get so damn rabid it's actually insane. and when people ship two men together irl ESPECIALLY when one or both are already in a relationship with someone else. it's rly invalidating of how people feel, and tons of male celebrities/influencers/whatever have said they feel uncomfortable with the gay shipping.

My unpopular opinion. Lately yaoi has gotten boring for me. Same overused cliche storyline that also includes rape, etc. *roll eyes*. There hasn't been a decent yaoi nowadays. Not to mention some toxic people on here. They also ruined it for me. If you comment something, they bashed you. It's crazy. Crazy weeaboos I swear. No offense.

The more manga I read, the more critical I get. I feel like it's mostly because over the years I just saw comments and opinions of people that made me realize how mangas can have many underlying problems in them. I know it's fiction, but I still refuse to read any manga that shows rape, abusive relationships, jealousy, manipulation and so on as romantic. It's not. I just can't enjoy it. It's wrong to portray any of this as romantic. A romantic story is a story about a healthy relationship. About respecting, trusting and communicating. This is what love is. I'll drop a manga straight away if I see something that shouldn't be in there, I will not tolerate these kind of things.

This isn't only a problem in the Yaoi genre, but in the whole romance genre. Shoujo for example can be pretty damn annoying if not done well. Can't say much about Yuri or Shounen with romance because I really am unfamiliar with it, but I guess there are problems there too. Of course I didn't get only critical about manga, but about just every thing that tells a story. Look at shows, movies and books - just like manga, most of them got 567898765456 problems in them. Sometimes it's not even the romance, but things like stupid ideals (Thing is that most of these ideals are things that seem like they advanced. Gender ideals, beauty ideals, personality ideals, they still exist. Just way more subtle. Guess what, our brain is a damn monster and will still get influenced by things you can't even notice), romanticizing things like suicide and mental illness and just characters being so damn toxic to each other (My god even platonic love got the same problems as romantic love! What the fuck).

Dear authors and writes, we aren't dumb. We want a good love story, with an actual conflict and good characters (O h nO my bf is friends with that girL he muSt be CheAtiNg on mE leT's nOt aSk Him AND tRust HiM AnD leT him HaVe nOrMal frieNDs and JUMP intO usElesS cOncluSions - "Hmm seems about right ALL RIGHT finished the plot hell yeah"). In other words - fucking fuckidy hell, this fucking sucks almost as much as I do for god's fucking sake

P.s I do like stories with dark themes that revolve about things like rape, sexual assault, abuse and etc. Let's take Killing Stalking for example. But is it right to count it as romance? Not really in my opinion. If you do think it's romantic, come on.

iSexy September 1, 2018 4:10 am

I hate it when scan groups draw dicks.

chesie September 1, 2018 4:13 am

my general response when a scan group draws dicks is "gold star for effort but you kinda ruined the scene. the dick is on backwards and now it just makes me laugh" ( ̄∇ ̄")

Pardon me September 1, 2018 3:48 am

I personally never liked killing stalking. And I also find that the most popular yaois have the same recycled storylines tbh. There were some that I found to be deserving of their immense popularity but the rest were just meh. I also hate how the yaoi relationships seem identical to hetero relationships (not saying they are bad) the Uke is practically the girl and the seme is the "man". Low-key triggers me

chesie September 1, 2018 4:04 am

yep. sometimes the ukes are just girls but with dicks and short hair. i think its fine for guys to be feminine, but sometimes they push it so hard they aren't even guys anymore. it seems like it's just a fetish for girls that are so insecure about their sexuality they can't read (het) without questioning their sexuality ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

chey September 1, 2018 3:41 am

also i just thought of this but the immense amount of slut shaming that goes on in the fandom is disgusting. like when ppl blame the bottom for sleeping with guys other than the top even though they aren't actually dating? lol what? casual sex is a real thing that happens, and it doesn't mean anyone is worth less. also the concept of virginity in and of itself is very patriarchal and was used as a way to oppress women.

1OvErDoSE01 September 1, 2018 3:23 am

I've got problems with manga sometimes but personally I get more frustrated at this fandom. For example, there was this really good romance manga (het) I was reading, when I went to go comment down in the comment section all I could see was some fujoshi's going on and on about how they'd rather the two male leads hook up instead. I find that insensitive.

In a way this is my "unpopular opinion" on yaoi fans, rather than manga.

chesie September 1, 2018 3:59 am

yep, totally agree. some fujoshi's get really out of hand. i think its fine to ship characters, but gosh, please turn it down. I've also heard of instances where fujoshi's harass creators/artists/authors and try to force them to make characters gay. it drives me up the wall. i guess this is why yaoi fans have such a bad reputation in general. it makes me so sad people will ignore a whole genre of great mangas just because some fans are terrible and "mainstream" popular yaoi's.

NyukNyukMeowBitch September 1, 2018 5:45 am

Yeah, the fandom's pretty shit, best to just keep your head down low

Scout September 1, 2018 6:12 pm

I hate this so much!! especially when people ship the two most popular male characters and throw a good female love interest character under the bus. Or sometimes they'll demonize her just to make a ship look better. Also when people ship the two main male characters despite it being hella toxic and abusive. I want cannon same sex couples too but damn man let's not crap on good characters and relationships for a ship that literally wont ever happen...

Marble19 September 1, 2018 3:13 am

I'm tired of the girly uke who can't stand up for himself and the sexual predator seme who has yet to be arrested. They were enjoyable and sexy when I first got into yaoi, but now it's annoying.#-.-)

Foxxi September 1, 2018 2:51 am

I'm sick of the typical 'small weak girly uke' and 'rough possessive aggressive seme' thing that's so prevalent in BL dramas/series/novels/whatever. It's unrealistic and irritating to read about/see. Also, the whole forced relationship/sex thing needs to stop. It ain't romantic, it's abusive and it makes me uncomfortable to see those kinds of things.

Indigo September 1, 2018 2:36 am

Junjou Romantica, Koisuru Boukun, Wolf Girl and Black Prince (shoujo) I don't find them romantic in the slightest, to me they are abusive relationships. but I don't leave a comment on mangas I don't like

chey September 1, 2018 3:36 am

yeeeahh tbh u right. junjou romantica is one of my faves but it starts out messy as hell. i only read koisuru boukun bc i saw a long haired character, but he's a dick, and morinaga's also shitty. i'm just around to see if anything ever changes but i doubt it. also yeah when i watched wolf girl and black prince i was almost flipping my laptop every episodes i fuCKING HATe that so much damn.
