Korean BL Webcomics or BL manga? And why?
Bl mangas will always be there for me to read when I want to relax (lmao), and I still read bl mangas more than bl webcomics, but I feel like korean bl webcomics are a lot more...diverse? in their stories. For example, there have been popular and unique new BL stories to come out in the recent years, thanks to the rise of Kwebcomics. Such as, Killing Stalking, which surprised a lot of people, and also sparked controversy. Of course, there has been a lot of Korean BL webcomics that I did find mediocre (especially the ones under "comedy", but that's just my opinion). Whereas, for bl mangas, it's been a while since I've seen something new. Then again, there's been new popular animes with BL in it, such as Yuri on ice, or a more recent adaption, Banana Fish (didn't watch banana fish). But from my knowledge, the manga was serialized in the 80s-90s. There's also the fact that Kwbcomics are also usually colored, and the panel layouts are different. Anyways, I'm rambling and I'm not the best with words, but I hope I made sense for the most part.
TLDR; I think that Korean BL webcomics brings a refreshing change for the bl community. Which one do you prefer? And why? What are your thoughts? Do you read more bl/yaoi mangas or bl/yaoi webcomics? (=・ω・=)
I prefer manga over manwha. But manwha is good but not for certain things. The art doesn't have that much emotion in manwha tbh. So yeah, I prefer manga.
This is what I mean
Not a lot of expression

bl manga
mangas ofc have more quality content than webcomics (in terms of character development , plotline blah blah blah ). the webcomics r usually rushed and end up at a point where so much storys content is just left out (ik it doesn't happen with every but often it does). tbh this can also take place with many mangas as well but still there w...... 2 reply
I definitely prefer manga for some of the same reasons that others have listed (line art on the whole tends to be more complex, I don't think color in and of itself adds much, and so on).
I don't find webtoons to be more diverse - they're just inflected with different tropes (as others note KDramas are a pervasive influence). Given that webtoons ...... 1 reply
I prefer manga *in general*, though there are some good Korean webtoons. I feel like webtoons suffer a lot from lack of editing. They often feel very unpolished(sometimes in a good way, but usually in a bad way). I could overlook this for a good story, but honestly I find webtoons to be just as predictable as manga at this point. 90% of the time, n...... reply
Personally, I find Korean BL webcomics to be generally better than most yaoi.
My points:
- Full Color + Good and unique art styles
- More diverse, with characters who are out of the ordinary
- Interesting storylines with less of a cliche plotline
- Interesting themes and concepts
- Longer length
- Characters who are more likable (debatable)
- A str...... 1 reply
I enjoy reading both manga and manhwa/manhua but i gotta admit they are totally different.
For manga i like
-Feelings, art style.
For Manhwa i like
- stories, character development
Honestly the art style in manga is way better and bc its black white you can focus on the art more than the shadow or color. Furthermore and the most important asp...... 1 reply
I love reading both.
Webtoon makes everything more enjoyable because most of it are in full-color and it's easy to read because the panels are arranged in a way that you can just scroll and scroll. The stories and premises are very unique too! But that's exactly the problem, it starts out so good but often times it gets too dragged and too drama-i...... 2 reply
I prefer BL manga, I think mostly because the art quality tends to drop if you're coloring it, I prefer lineart. This is important to me because not only I'm an artist, but I also want to be a manga artist and move to Japan in 2-3 years. Manga def has more of that high quality beautiful feel I think, I just love Japanese culture? idk. It seems like...... reply
I'm 100% on the manga side.
I used to like webtoons, as it's so colorful and lovely. but well maybe because I grew with manga, I'm more used to the Japanese stories as well as their culture. here is more reason why I choose manga :
1st, I don't really like Korean webcomics panel.
2nd, the characters are rarely lovable (in my opinion), like how the...... 1 reply
I completely agree with you, there's a lot more diversity in characters, art style, storylines etc in Manhwa/Manhua. Of course, it makes it a little hard to find what you'd like to read on a specific day, but I like variety and taking a longer time to find what you want is better than having very limited options. 1 reply
