I wouldn't think is possible, but I'll stop following a webtoon cuz of the bad comments. It came to a point were I feel enough is enough. I can't stand bad bahavior, seeing it most times is affecting me in a bad way. People can be too toxic without realizing it. I don't have words of how mean and how easily they attack others.
Every person can have an opinion, but if too many people are against a certain opinion is dishearting.
Luckely there were people were I could talk to and confront my ideas with them.
I gotta agree, it’s getting quite annoying and people are taking it too seriously and ruining the mood :/ I just hope there is a new website we can be on that doesn’t have those kind of people on
I know what you mean. Reading comments has caused a few bad days for me too. Heck, I have even abandoned reading for months because I couldn't enjoy the manga I love so much after reading comments. I get through it by remembering several important points.
1. Many readers here, because the site is unrestricted by age, are much, much younger than I am. That means they have not faced the world in the way that I have or for as long as I have. Of course their views will be skewed. Mine certainly were when I was their age. Only time and experience can teach the lessons that formed the opinions I hold today. So, I have to be patient. I didn't grow up all at once and neither will they.
2. Going back to the age of many readers here, their whole life is being connected to faceless names and words on a screen. Therefore, their communication skills are going to be different from someone who has had to have debates and discussions face to face. They have never watched the shock, pain and horror that engulfs another person's face when they have been deeply insulted or hurt by the words that came out of the speaker's mouth. Again, this is a hard lesson that only time and experience can teach. 3. I am just another faceless name here. Knowing that, why do I care what those other faceless names thinks of me? They don't feed me, employ me, provide me with shelter, they are not my lover nor are they my parent or child. Their opinion of me has as much impact on my life as a raindrop falling in an ocean on another planet. This helps me not take anything said online personally.
4. And this is the most important point. We have absolutely no control over the thoughts and actions of others. We can exchange ideas, we can try to manipulate and influence others, we can even get angry. But at the end of it all, we have no control of what they think or do. What we DO have control over is ourselves. It is the ONLY thing in the universe we can truly control. We can't stop someone from insulting us or someone we care about, but we can control how we REACT to that insult. As long as you control your reactions, words and actions and are satisfied with how you have expressed yourself, that is the best you can do. View it as a win. Being in control doesn't mean being a doormat and allowing someone to insult you or others. It means responding with a clear head. Think through what the other person said, think through your reaction, think through not just what you say but also HOW you say it. Then, when all is said and done, you know you handled the situation to the best of your ability. You didn't just blurt out a knee-jerk response. This is especially easy to do here because no one is expecting an immediate response.
Now, that last point also applies to what I will say next. Because you are in control of you - your thoughts and actions - don't let the uncontrolled words or actions of others drive you to lose control of yourself. Don't let some dumb kid's crappy comment stop you from enjoying something you love. Take control of your situation, think it through, then respond.
Personally, I love to have debates and discussions with people whose opinions and views are very different from mine. I learn so much. I learn about the person I am talking to, their experiences, their personality, the world or culture they live in and so much more. I also get to see the world through eyes that are not my own. When I was younger, I lived my life trying to walk in the shoes of others. Because I did that, I lived a very full life, rich in experiences I would never have had otherwise. So, please, if you ever just want to share an opinion, vent your ire at stupid comments or even if you need someone to lift your spirits and remind you that you love reading manga, feel free to contact me through the mail option here. I only know enough to know that I don't know everything, but what I do know, I am happy to share.
Some people do take this too seriously. I mean, we're only discussing comics here. There are no wrong or right opinions when it comes to that. I mean, I've been called a psychopath once when I was pissed off at a character. I wasn't even serious, but the other person was. Some people on here are really delusional. And it can absolutely take away from the experience of being on here. But I don't think you should stop reading a webtoon because of idiots, because then it's like they've won. It's better to just not read the comments and enjoy it in your own way.
Yes, I wished there was a turn off button for replies. I was really mad, I deleted that webtoon. I got too involved in the mean comments and how people don't understand that. Even the uploader dropped cuz of this and they didn't care and said mean stuff. So all gathered together and I got more and more upset for the behavior. Now I'm cool, I'll just read the story and ignore the comments. Ty
