I think it's less a smell and more empathetic response. Have you ever been in a life or death situation? It's like a sense of danger. When they talk about how the other 'smells good' they're just literally increasing that feeling by breathing it in. They're really just chasing the empathetic response. There's no actual smell.

I would imagine the best thing that a person could even think of at that moment. (Replace bread with a smell you may like, if you don't like bread) If you didn't eat for several days, or for example you are starving- (for me at least) the smell of fresh-baked bread would hit me like a slap to the face. So sure they might smell good, like vanilla or...... reply
