am I being paranoid?
There's this neighbor who is an old dude who has recently started giving us food, probably about four times now. His excuse would be that he cooked too much. Just now, I went out to feed some stray cats with my leftovers from my lunch box. The old man's apartment door was opened, so he saw me go out, and then he called me over and said to get his green bowl that he used to give us food. He said he'd give us food, and I said, “Oh no, but we've already eaten," so he said, "Ah, okay." After giving the cats food, I went back in and took the green bowl to return it to the old man's because I forgot to return it and was just reminded about it after talking to him, but then he said there's no need to return it. Then he randomly gave me money, saying it's money to commute to school. I refused, but he kept on insisting I keep the money. I couldn't do shit anymore, so I kind of just accepted it, and he went back inside his apartment, but my mom heard all that, so she took the money from me and gave it back to the old guy.
I'm kind of creeped out by this because, absolutely, why? I also think the guy is just being genuine, because what if, idk, he just misses his kids or grandchild and is just taking it all out on us, and him being a creep is all in my head? I think all those true crime videos and podcasts I listened to are getting to me and probably giving me paranoia or some shit.
BTW, he lives alone, but when I get home from school, sometimes I see a guy in a school uniform (I don't know which school his from because there aren't any logos on his uniform) come out of the apartment. But the old man wouldn't be home.
no, you're not being paranoid. even if he is just trying to be nice, it's better to follow your instincts and risk hurting his feelings (he's an adult, he'll get over it) than to put yourself in danger. and tbh the food is one thing but he has no business giving you money that's very inappropriate and any self-aware adult knows this. never go in hi...... reply
I'd tell ur mom but tbh a lot of old people r just like that. like if it were an old lady u prob wouldnt bat an eye but just tell ur parents. the rando guy might be his grandkid but old people do tend to give money and lots of food to kids if possible but like don't be alone in an enclosed space w ANYONE you don't trust reply
Fuck im getting goosebumps thinking abt it, I experienced having a neighbor like this when i was in third grade, he owned a store and my parents would always tell us to go buy something and he acted so creepy always giving me biscuits for free and i felt uncomfortable but my mom just told me to thank him for his kindness. He did some weird stuff th...... 1 reply
Listen to your paranoia, it's trying to save you from a situation that it doesn't want to be in, it's basically giving you nothing but warning signs.
So listen to what your body is telling you to do and stay away from mister Herbert because he's definitely a pervert.
Keep watching crime documentaries because what you learn in those documentaries ...... reply
I don't see anything weird about it, he just sounds like a sweet old man. Maybe he's lonely and you remind him of his relatives? That said, I'm someone who has almost been kidnapped before because my sense of danger is nonexistent so take that with a grain of salt lol ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ reply
I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this BUT DO NOT EAT THE FOOD. If u can’t stop it then take the food, but do not eat it. This isn’t a movie where the food could be poisoned or whatever the fuck else, that’s highly unlikely, but u still don’t know what he’s done to it. Think abt all the fast food workers who spit in people’s food. ...... reply
