Discussing Explicit mangas with underage characters.
Anyone else who’s recently growing up feel extremely uncomfortable reading anything with underage characters in it. Like it’s set in highschool or something. I used to not see a problem with it because I was that age(same as the characters) but now that im older then them it’s just straight weird. I understand the highschool setting but having explicit scenes included… idk man. Also what I find even more weird is all these mangakas are well into their 20’s+!!! Just make it college setting or make it shounen ai, tf do you need two 16 year olds going at it for. It genuinely makes me feel sick.
This is insanely normalized.
I don’t understand how someone who is deciding to make a whole manga, with an editor, publisher, etc. who’s is an adult, is approved and can all think it’s fine to make something with these types of characters.
If you’re under 18 you’re probably not gonna understand. Or this isn’t something you’re worrying about so just move on.
I feel you man. I always found underaged characters so weird. Like especially in some BLs out there, why do they have to make the MC look like 15 or worse 12 even though they are like 18 or of legal age? And also I notice it not only in yaoi, it’s in smut too! It’s always highschool girls, or highschool boys (which are usually paired with a whole ass adult or 5000 year old demon)… ik this is a well known and lasting problem but it’s just crazy how normalized this is in Japan and Korea. I’m gonna be real. I first read smut at a young age. Completely by accident when I tried to find Snow White… somehow found a smut Snow White fan fiction. The fic wasn’t even that good. It was just notable bc it was smut and I was not even 10 yet.

Maybe bc of the audience? To cater to the young readers and old perverts I assume but it still doesn't excuse them
I think same logic can be used for hentai as well w their over the top body anatomy even tho its not normal it sells.
If it sells other authors will join the hype as well. Making it "normalized" when a great majority partake in it. 1 reply
im under 18 but i honestly think about that every day. like when I'm reading it i don't really care because everyone has sex BUT LIKE THE THOUGHT OF THE AUTHOR WHO IS WELL ABOVE 18 DRAWING SEX OF TEENAGE BOYS IS REALLY GROSS

I was also in the same position as you, it used to be not a problem for me because I was their age too, so it doesn't feel as weird. Now that I'm looking at it when I'm older, it IS weird. Well aspects from my age(24) I really don't like illogical things but I still enjoy fluffy high school and office romance etc. If they're my type

You're probably overthinking it now (been there done that when I was fresh out of high school). High school setting and college setting are widely different - the age range and so the character's maturity/troubles/outlook on life, the social expectations, the relationships, the schooling system - a lot of these stories wouldn't work in a college se...... 1 reply
