depends. if it's a misunderstanding that can be solved in 10 seconds if they stopped running away from each other i hate it with my whole being but genuine miscommunication trope is so fun. my favorite is when both characters are like "noo theres no way they feel the same" 2 reply

real and why is this such a big thing in 1) historical romance and 2) bl/yaois?? like baby that misunderstanding did not need to be 60 chapters bcs u saw him with another/a girl and suddenly ure overthinking everything and that he lied abt his feelings but it turns out to be his sister/female relative reply
It depends and I fluctuate between hating misunderstandings and really enjoying them. I think it provides a way to generate conflict and angst between two people while still having them both be “in the right” or at least understandable.
Example
Character A betrays Character B because no reason
-> why tf would they do that, character A condemned...... reply
I usually hate this trope but depending on
1) what the misunderstanding is
2) How they solve it
3) How much it actually contributes to the plot
4) If it's a dumb or complex misunderstanding
5) If it can be resolved by a simple conversation or its more complicated than that
