Controversial topics in mangas
So I was having an argument with someone who reads manga at my school, but I noticed the manga they were reading had a lot of.. Lolis in it. I asked him why he was reading it and he said he enjoyed it. So I tried explaining how that's a little weird and he got mad at me, saying "if there's rape in BL you don't care, but once I read something that has one loli in it now it's a problem"
I don't read BLs with rape in it so that didn't really effect me but I did USE to read it and that got me thinking.. Why is it so normalize for people to just brush past rape in BLs?? And most people who try to excuse it usually say "fiction doesn't effect reality" but yet they be the same people that say "fiction does effect reality" for shotacon and lolicon.
In my opinion I just think that all three subjects are just weird to read in general, especially if it's on a daily basis. But I wanted to see what other people think, "fiction does effect reality" or does it not?
Anyone who says fiction doesn't affect reality has never read anything above a 5 year old's reading level. Fiction has been used to make a point about society as a whole for years and many book have shown to have a massive cultural impact (this applies to novels, movies and manga etc)

I believe the answer is dependent on person to person. I don’t think they necessarily affect reality, but more so the persons perception of their reality ig? And in their relationships with people I also think it can negatively affect how they think and how they act, but I don’t think it actually directly affects every day life with every perso...... reply
it depends, if your mental stability isn't that great to separate fiction and reality, it does affect. I'm not saying not to read/watch fictional things when you're mentally unstable, it's a great escape, i know, but sometimes it can lead to delusions, or maladaptive daydreaming, or worse.
Sometimes people would also force what they saw in fictio...... reply
My answer would lean on yes but whether that is good or bad varies depending on the person's ability to know how and what to digest in the context of the manga/manhwa they read. Also, if they read loli/shota contents it doesn't automatically apply to their values, it could be something related to character dynamics and personalities that piqued the...... reply
Depends what type of fiction we are talking about
If we are talking about one piece or something like that . THEN YES fiction does effect reality the impact like shows like one piece, Naruto , dragon ball and even boku no pico had somehow effect reality these things do affect us like one piece is a prime example on how it effect is in terms of rea...... reply
So the law in the country where I come from it is worse because it is always assumed that the child does not want it. So pedophilia includes rape. So it's automatically worse and many people agree with it. And up to a certain age, I would agree with that too. It only gets ridiculous when a 17-year-old has a relationship with a 25-year-old and you c...... reply
I know just the bare surface of both Bl's & loli's so i'll keep this simple but my stance is Fiction ALWAYS affects reality or well you the reader actually.
What you read affects you. And you affect reality.

first of all you are way more mature and better at nuanced conversation than that guy will ever be. he was just shifting the blame away from himself on you. and instead of getting defensive you genuinely considered his side so respect.
as for the matter. I don't know why rape in BL is an excuse for lolicon or vise versa. rape in BL IS an issue. lo...... reply
Fiction affects reality. It shouldn’t be a debate. It’s the truth. Does that ALWAYS mean reading certain stuff reflects your character and your actual tastes? No. But sometimes yes. reply
