What are your opinions on tips??
As a European the way they work in America is SO wild to me. Because wdym it's mandatory, tips were made for when you like the service like in expensive restaurants or when you have a friendly waiter. I even see corner stores or self serve stores asking for tips when they're doing bare minimum. But you kinda have to give it or they'll like spit in ur food or smth. Plus I feel bad because them servers are VERY underpaid. At the same time why has it become normalize for people to pay a servers wage and not they're boss??? Like Ik them bosses are happy they don't have to raise wages because they get pay through tips also. Overall I think Americans are just entitled and will ALWAYS find a way to capitalize something. Like I don't have a problem giving them tips but it's just the attitude ig.
it’s not mandatory per say but it is very looked down upon if you don’t tip for eating in restaurants & ordering delivery for pizza but it’s mainly because waiters in the U.S have wages that are actually way below the minimum wage. for instance the federal minimum wage in the U.S is $7.25 but for waiters specifically it’s $2.15. this is mai...... reply
If we think about it in the simplest of ways: US tipping culture is basically begging in a shop but with permission from the owner.
Calling it idiotic is an understatement.
But then again, we are talking about the US. A country that got(gets less complicated things wrong. We probably shouldn't expect them to understand how the fuck paying employe...... reply
I’ve worked in food service so I tip 20% no matter what.
Yeah, it’s weird that America does it. But it’s a good way to offset the shitty wages.
I don’t even view it as performance based most of the time. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍ reply
I mean, it overall just sucks to be a server lmao. Your whole paycheck is pretty much a gamble.
And let’s say the employers decide to pay their employees $12 an hour.. they’ll just raise the food prices and that tip you would’ve gave will just go to food/the restaurant. reply
I'll tip good all day every day. Even if I have $10 in the bank and the food cost $3, ill tip $2. Like I shouldn't be eating out if I ain't got money to tip good no way. Even if the waiter starts slinging monkey feces at me. I also tip even if the waiter has a bad attitude, because trust that was me when I was working a shitty service job. mean mug...... reply
My country is going to shit, servers can make a living on their salary. Still customers shouldn't be obligated to give tips, tips are a "I like you, so here's a lil smth for your good work", not part of a server's paycheck
Tbh it kinda creeps me out how serves in the US are SO extra so they get tips, and how they leave work, get in the car and ma...... reply
it's more common to tip at restaurants/diners and the like. if you're ordering a coffee at starbucks and don't tip, they don't gaf, trust me. like others said, tipping is a way to transfer responsibility from employers to customers in paying the employees. it's messed up, but yeah america is capitalist! fuck capitalism! rather than saying americans...... reply
