Rant: Anyone else hate side couples in romance stories?
I don't know of this is just me but I really hate having side stories in Yuri, Yaoi, or even straight manga. It really puts me off and frustrates me to no end because 100% of the time it's super unnecessary and I don't even care about the secondary couple. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind a side story focusing on the side couple when the main story has ended. But when it rudely interrupts the main thats what gets me mad. For one, it puts off the flow of the main story and two if the story is updating, I get really hyped, and click only to be sorely disappointed that its two irrelevant people I dont give two shits about. It's like an unwanted filler episode of two characters nobody ever asked for. This is not me coming at people who like the side couples because there are some exceptions for me (like Bj Alex) but it just annoys me when it takes away from the main story. Anyway, thats my incoherent thought dump and you can disagree if you want bcs I'm not sure if it's an unpopular opinion or not.
I only like the side couple if I like the main character of the side story, for me to like the side couple in a story both of the characters have to be likable. I will not like the side couple if the main character in the side story was a piece of shit to the MC in the main storyline, I refuse to read a side story about an asshole who treated the M...... reply
I don't hate side couples, sometimes I even end up liking the side couple more than the main couple lol. but I agree i like it better if the side couple got their own story on side story rather than in the middle when the main couple story still going on. reply
I don’t know. I’m a big side couple fan and I usually prefer stories with a side couple or multiple couples bc sometimes the main couple could be boring and I want something different. There’s also times where the side couple is way better than the main couple.

I'm the opposite bc half of the time authors put 0 effort on the main couple and their chemistry is bland, meanwhile the side couple has way more background and deep problems that connects them 1 reply
