Why do some people like other pairings over Alpha x Omega?
Why do some people like omegaverse but prefer AxA, AxB, BxO, or OxO, over AxO in BLs?
I've seen many people express their disappointment when one of the main characters of a story turns out to be an omega instead of an alpha or a beta like they thought especially when the other main character is an alpha bcs that would mean the story is going to be about AxO.
Is it because AxO pairings are too common that it's becoming boring to some? Or are there some other reasons?
I thought omegaverse is a universe that's made up to make it possible for couples to bond their body and souls together through mating bites and for male couples to be able to get pregnant since it's impossible irl. But having AxA, AxB, BxO, or OxO couples means the purpose of writing the story in omegaverse is moot, no? (Unless the specific story itself alters the common concept of omegaverse and made it so that everyone can get pregnant, ofc. Though, if that's the case, having ABO genders would also be moot since everyone has the reproductive organs to conceive???)
Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the concept of omegaverse itself??
Anyways, I'd appreciate if some of you can share your thoughts if you do prefer other pairings over AxO. This is no way a dig at anyone's preference, btw. I'm genuinely asking out of curiosity and I want to see people's perspectives on this.
Same reason people prefer mlm and wlw pairings over het ones, they're booooooringgggg!! Especially if you have something like abo where you're heterofying the already gay couples. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing men dregnant, that in itself is already kind of a deviation from expected gender norms, what's not though is when literally everything a...... 3 reply
ngl this lowk sounds like "why would anyone like mlm or wlw instead of mlw? it just destroys the entire point of a man and a woman bonding over their shared ability to reproduce and create life" or something along those lines
maybe the "unconventional" pairings are their universe's version of breaking heteronormative standards? idk i just happened ...... 1 reply
Originally omegaverse was a way to have gay couples have bio kids and a normalize family trope
But as authors started diving more into what the world would look like for omegas it started to be more and more of a parallel of patriarchy. Omegaverse puts omegas at the same level of real woman, they have less respect and get treated poorly for existi...... 1 reply
to put it simply, non-traditional a/b/o pairings challenge the status quo in the omegaverse which many readers find compelling myself included. once you’ve read enough omegaverse the ‘beta suddenly turned omega’ trope becomes tired, because it ultimately ends the same as any other traditional alpha/omega pairing does. it’s trope-y and clich...... reply
well for me at least I like everything but it all depends on the story cuz if if they are only a couple cuz they are AxO then whats the point or like when an Alpha like a Beta but suddenly they manifest and they are an omega wtf??? cant a person just like an other person without all those pheromones bs where u cant control it . I like when its an ...... 1 reply
IMO most of the AxO I've seen has always been pretty noncon (if not it's either they were already SAed by someone else in the past) and just no chemistry straight to making babies. It's too boring cause we can easily predict what's gonna happen. Plus Omegas on those stories are always portrayed as soft weak people where they can't even defend thems...... reply
Well, in my opinion people like omegaverse because it allows pregnancies to gay couples but prefer other pairing than AxO because this one is often perceived as anti-free-will. Because of the concept of pheromones and fated pairing the association of AxO is mostly associated with A dominating O. Because of this dynamic the stories also involve a lo...... reply
I think it's due to people liking to explore dynamics outside of the conventional, which is why people look outside of AxO in omegaverse (as it's pretty similar to our societal ideas of wlm being the norm) and the genuine pointlessness of male Alpha x female Omega (it exists, but completely loses the point of why omegaverse exists in the first plac...... reply
omg exactly my thought the other day. i see axa relationships as "being queer" in omegaverse like what's the point? why not just read regular bl? reply
