It’s true that BL is more popular than GL but not because of misogyny imo. It’s because a major part of romance readers are straight women and straight women love hot men. Don't know what you mean by yuri not being taken seriously. I think its just less popular. Looking at manga genre sales charts and yaoi just makes ALOT more revenue than yuri its not even close. Even on the Chinese side, danmei is very very popular and I haven't even heard of notable baihes. Personally I think its because most straight women aren't...... 1 reply

Not some, most. Go to baihe vs danmei discourse on twitter. You can see many of the gl fans dissing them and straight manga fans only cause they didn't want them reading their gl/baihe. Pretty weird. i wouldn't say its taken less seriously then yaoi, in fact i would say its the opposite. Take this with a grain of salt but in my personal experience, yuri content is often alot more mature and better written then most yaoi, and the characters in these stories arent only used as sex objects but actually allowed to explore themselves outside of the ...... reply
In my opinion, I don’t feel like it’s misogny. I just feel like it’s a much smaller demographic lol. When it comes to romance books there’s a lot more women consuming them than men. The majority of women are heterosexual so it makes sense that romance involving men would be a bit more popular. Plus I feel like I get the same type of respons...... 2 reply
Okay, I might just be talking out of my ass here, but I feel like one of the reasons a lot of yaoi readers (most of them women) aren’t super into yuri is cause most yuri is written by men. Not all of it, obviously, but enough that you can kinda tell. The stories just don’t hit the same way yaoi does.
