I kinda believe the pandemic was the best and worst thing to ever happen to the internet. I barely remember anything before, during and after the pandemic (I have memory problems) but I still remember how the internet was a lot more peaceful back then. I mean slight generalization but don't u guys think people were a lot happier online than now? ragebait wasn't just slurs and "I'm gonna bomb 3 babies unironically" it was simple banter, fun even
but then covid hit, and for the first few years everyone was just bored yk. it was fun, a lot of stuff happened like the dsmp and a lot more accepting queer media, nothing too bad! but I just feel like something triggered in a lot of people that just made them realize that it's the internet, there aren't real consequences. and it basically went downhill from there, and that disgusting insensitive mentality stuck. it's still here, and people aren't afraid to be horrible human beings anymore!
on one hand, the internet has definitely learned a lot of queer and nice awesome stuff and are generally more accepting! this type of knowledge actually affects real life and media you would normally show to kids like movies and tv shows. it's a start to a better future! but on the other hand... the www is just a horrible place to be. you can't escape the trauma, the insanity, it just sucks! social media apps like tiktok, xitter, instagram, are all the same mindless brain eating amoeba just operating under different names. xitter is the worst one of all because as soon as u step onto that app u either see 1 of 3 things; gore, ANYTHING remotely regarding epstein, or genuine unbridled hate
in other words, I don't want to believe the 2020 lockdown happened
looking back, it kinda was like the beginning of a TV show where the story starts right before the apocalypse:))) I was in college, middle of the school week, reading articles and posts on social media from people panicking and I was thinking they were crazy for blowing everything out of proportion. Then my roommate barges in and starts packing all their stuff in a rush, saying their dad was coming right then to pick them up and go back home. It was truly a scene right from a movie. Then a few days later, we are told classes will be suspended for 2 weeks. I went home with just my usual backpack, thinking I'll be back, but nah... :)) the whole country was in quarantine and it was a pain in the ass to go back and get all my stuff because everything had to be scheduled and planned with the college and all the other students as to avoid as much human interaction as possible:)) We weren't allowed to travel or be out at night without a declaration and then later on, proof that we got vaccinated. Crazy times :)))
