Before I get started with this I just want to clarify one thing-
I’ve always read yaoi since I was fourteen ( PAUSE. Some of us were curious about that kind of thing at a young age ) anyways. Lately I just haven’t been into yaoi much.
I don’t know whether it’s because every yaoi that I read is the same with the gr*pe, toxic tops, and many others elements we’ve already experienced in yaois. But I genuinely don’t get the appeal of it anymore.
I use to binge read yaois almost every night even on school nights I would have stayed up late just to finish reading a BL story. But now I just speed through the ones I’m currently reading with 0 interest.
I feel that. I just read Tractor Love, a wholesome non-toxic relationship manhua and it was refreshing. Im back on the yaoi loving train. I think if you're still wanting to read BL, go the Shounen Ai route. Also WAY LESS rxpe
I love shonen stories. But even those get boring sometimes due to the slow paced nature of some of the relationships + the cringy stuff lol but they are funny
I get what you mean, stories nowadays aren’t very substantive or groundbreaking like they were back in the day. It definitely takes me a while to find a quality story that’s not generic, flat, and focuses only on the smut. I would say that you’re maybe more mature now and need a story to have a message worth reading for it to stick out to you.
that’s true- I’ve matured a lot and yaoi just isn’t as good like you said as back in the early days when I was younger. everything’s toxic now with 0 plot
i made a similar post about this but the general consensus was two things: 1. you’ve just grown up and your tolerance for bad storytelling has dropped 2. alot BL media is starting to become more overtly sexually violent to sell better.

I noticed that- even the new ones coming out have gr*pe in it. I guess that’s the main reason I don’t see the appeal of BL anymore. It’s all the same
