Straight Vs LGBTQ+ War

[DELETED] [DELETED] 2020-07-11 06:27:48 About real life problems
The reason I'm writing this is because of a post that's been making rounds recently. It's basically a straight person talking about how they dislike when people from the LGBTQ+ community categorize them all in one group and then make fun of them. I have to say their argument was a bit flawed considering they brought up the topic of hetrophobia. Which incase you weren't aware cannot exist. Homophobia has been hammered into people through years of historical brainwashing and Hetrosexual people as a whole will NEVER experience hate to that level. However, we aren't completely in the right either. I'm a lesbian myself and I don't think anything good will come out of treating straight people the way they treated us. It just makes them hate us more. There is no point fighting fire with fire. It's harder for homophobia to die out if we return their toxicity. Honestly, I'm writing this post because I saw a username I recognized comment some pretty awful shit directed at the LGBTQ+ community under a post a while ago, back when we last talked they were pretty neutral with the whole thing and it really fucking hurts to know that they changed their mind because some bullshit that doesn't represent us as a whole.

TLDR; treat people how you want to be treated

If someone changed their mind about LGBT people as a whole because of a rude comment on the internet, they probably weren't a very good person to begin with.

Gay people making jokes about straight people online is not the cause of homophobia. At worst it gives people who are already homophobic an excuse to be bigoted under the moral guise of being the victim of bullying. Telling LGBT people to act nicer or else the half-hearted acceptance of cishet society will be stripped from them is incredibly counter productive. If a group is oppressed they will be oppressed regardless of whether they have a "good" or "bad" attitude about it, i.e. LGBT people making straight jokes. Remember that the first Pride was a riot.

If anyone wants to read how gay people actually help perpetuate homophobia "The Tolerance Trap" by Suzanna Walters is a great read. (Sorry that this is way too academic for mangago.me and I know OP is not arguing rude gay people shouldn't have civil rights I'm talking about things on a larger scale)

Cherubee, I went through a time where I was incredibly straight-hating because of the shit I read on the internet. If you're telling me people won't take dumb comments to heart it they're good people, then you are very mistaken.

I never said that gay people making jokes was the cause of homophobia. I even touched upon the origins of it briefly in my post. It is however, a rampant factor in what makes heterosexual people gather negative views about us.

Returning fire is childish, immature, and to our detriment, there is no scientific reason to be homophobic but when you encourage impressionable children to act like this online, there is a reason. The first pride got us our rights but it wasn't what made the general public realize we were deserving of them. You know what did? Living with us and realizing we were just like them.

I'm not going to acknowledge that last part because you mentioned it wasn't related to my post.

Heterophobia cannot and doesn’t exist!!

“Categorizing” straight people also doesn’t exist! because there’s no “Straight” categories. As a lesbian thank you for making this post (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

YES YES SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK. I am not part of the LGBTQ+ community and because of that I understand how privileged I am. As I will never understand the pain y'all go through. So for those out there screaming hEterOpHobIa iS rEal, y'all need to check your privilege and stop wanting to be oppressed.
