Is it right for me to refuse when ppl ask me to talk in my native tongue?
Ok a little context, my native language is one that is commonly fetishized…and oftentimes when i meet new ppl, they want me to speak in that language and sure I’m fine with speaking a sentence or two but it’s a little cringe. Earlier I was talking with my friends online who i am still getting to know and they all joked they wanted to hear me talk for 5-10 min and i said it was cringe for me and i didnt want to an changed the subject. But then i felt this nagging feeling that they think im boring or lame. I do tend to be an introvert and i’m probably thinking too much bc idk them all too well yet. But idk if anyone on here can relate and can tell me if im just overreacting??
I cant relate but u shouldn’t have to speak in ur native language just because someone made/wanted u to. its u are ur own person you can say no when u want to 1 reply

Oooh girl I got the heebie jeebies even from just reading about it. You are absolutely not overreacting. just cause they were "joking" doesn't cancel out the fact that you were uncomfy.
( I got asked about how cartels worked ... and etc so I know how it gets...)
I'd say maybe bring it up lightly with one person, like offhand since you're an int...... reply
Unless they start speaking to you in your native tongue, you don’t have to do anything. Cause yeah sometimes it really is a fetish ppl have. If it’s truly from a place of respect well then dam they better start learning your language first reply
