Why do video essay suck now?
Why is everything so surface level, why is it all just summaries with zero opinions or depth. I wanna learn something new, I WANT TO BE INTERESTED IN THE VIDEO. Everything is so boring, even commentary videos are boring as hell now everything is just "Ai is bad! (Subscribe to this coffee site!)" "Capitalism bad! Anyway the sponsor of this video is *thing* that dumps waste in the waters of third world countries!" "Here a serious topic of someone being predatory towards minors and yeah I will make jokes and treat this topic as just another internet drama!" OMG IM TIRED BE ORIGINAL
Personally I find Fern’s vids to be pretty interesting, esp cause they are all super high quality, have good graphics/play-by-plays and are super in-depth
Tasting History by Max Miller and Into the Shadows are really good channels as well imo

I feel like Brew borders on the edge of video essay and investigative journalism but I honestly cannot listen to basic ahh video essays anymore

Sorry if it's not exactly what you're talking about, but I feel generally a lot of videos are just tiring?
This, and the algo recs (if I am watching guitar videos why the fuck do I have in the recs topics that are meant to rage people?? Tf) made me stop using YouTube consistently.

No I agree they’re all boring af. Like if I wanted a recap I would just go watch the show myself instead spending 2 hours being bored to death by their “video essay” And can we also talk about the state of gameplays like it’s always a 4 hour long narrative slop video that recaps everything being a MrBeastified video of 100vs100 ppl or 100 d...... reply
Depends what YOU consider to be a video essay and how long should it be.
For example, I enjoy essays about certain events, people, movies or video games.
So for me it's Vince Vintage, Internet Historian + 2nd channel Storymode (about games), Thafnine and Quinton Reviews.
Also I used to watch The Right Opinion, but not anymore. reply
