I don’t think people who are religious and believe gay people are a sin should be reading and enjoying queer media. I recently fought with this religious Muslim girl straight up, saying she does not support LGBTQ rights but enjoys BL because it’s simply fictional and to that I say you are a fucking horrible person. I see this mostly common in people who follow Abrahamic faiths and I don’t have a problem with that but if you’re going out here spread bigotry while thinking you can enjoy queer media you’re dead ass wrong and people have every right to judge you and critique you if you’re out here supporting patriarchal systems while just reducing gay people as fictional. BL might be written by women for women, but a huge chunk of it is still representing real people and majority of these authors support LGBTQ rights so if it goes against your religion, don’t read it! This is the problem with religious people. They think that they should be respected, even though they’re out here, not supporting basic human rights for certain groups of people. It's possible she enjoys bl because her particular religion or cultural upbringing dehumanizes women to the point where she can't relate to a fl. so she relates more with a ml than female leads. It's a religious phenomenon I like to call "wannabe Athena problem". A girl raised by a misogynistic rapist in a culture that only praises "male qualities", begins to associate with said qualities herself to the point where she also dehuminzes women for their "vulnerability" can never be an ally to women, much less an ally to the gays/theys. Also they would associate themselves with the victim role in bl ( not a woman but a less fortunate man eg omega, Cinderella plot, abused bottom etc). I knew a strictly religious mormon girl ( a culture similar to Muslim but not exactly the same but does allow multiple wives and encourages it etc) who said the same thing BUT we were talking about this in our intro to psychoanalysis class and told her the above and decided to involve the teacher lol. Previously we had discussed that her favorite mythos was Athena hence my nickname. It is very telling that she associates with the woman who cursed another woman for being raped.

A comment that caught my eye was that from an ex-Muslim (not OP). I noticed a lot of things she claimed to be in Islam was literally never there. So I tried clearing up her confusion, and one of her points was about homophobia in Islam. I explained why ISLAM forbids homosexuality, not MY own perspective on it. I'm guessing the ex-Muslim understood my point and started making claims on other things instead (which were also very incorrect but I ain't gonna be typing that much yap to someone who's made up her mind). Fast forward, OP chimes in, attacking me for the correction on the homosexuality part. Like all I did was explain why Islam made homosexuality forbidden, not offering my own perspective. OP called me disgusting and shit, I mean, I can deal with it, but what pissed me off is her claiming me to be homophobic too. Frankly, who on earth reads bl and is homophobic? Like make that make sense. I told the OP i don't support lgbt AS IN I'm straight, and there's not much people I know irl who are homosexual. I live in the capital city, you'd be surprised by how many gay and lesbian couples you'd find here despite this being an islamic country. OP interprets it as me being a pos. Anyways, that's about it. I've always enjoyed BL because the stories have a lot more substance that the hetro ones. Plus, I can't stand the obnoxious body types in hetro romances.
