I don’t understand why authors decided to make the two main characters be in love with eachother, but one of them dates a different person.
This is the BIGGEST pet peeve I have when it comes to romance stories. For example, I dropped so many animes, such as rampants of the ice (or wtv) just because I found out the ML is dating a different girl when he literally is so in love with the FL..
I don’t understand, how does this affect the plot at all? To add more drama? More angst? The only thing you’re doing is just angering the viewers and would most likely be the reason why they wouldn’t watch it again because of that once scene.
I also hate when they sleep with someone else. It just tells you the plot is going to be mediocre or bullshit
Omg I agree so much. It honestly feels like it's normalizing emotional cheating. If you're in a relationship but you're constantly prioritizing someone else and catching feelings for them, why are you even dating your partner?
I've dropped so many anime and manga because of this, including the one you mentioned. And I hate when people defend it by saying, "You just don't understand him, he's a complex character." No... that's not what complexity is. You're not showing media literacy by excusing objectively bad behavior. A character can be well-written and still be a terrible partner, but having him emotionally cheat or sleep with someone else doesn't automatically make him deep or nuanced.
Good Morning Call is a perfect example. He literally left his girlfriend out in the rain to go after another girl/his ex. If you still have feelings for someone else, why are you dating her?
And Studio Cabana is a bit different because he was being groomed, so there's more going on there, but I still don't think people should act like sleeping with another girl is what makes him "complex." That's such a shallow reading of his character.
