Summerween Day 25: The Thing

Misanthropical Misanthropical 2026-07-25 13:11:16 About question
Hello everybody my name is Markiplier and and welcome to the last of my reviews for the Summerween list of movies, I decided to stop on today because the movies chosen for the rest of the month sound either boring, gross or ass and I'm also kinda burnt out from watching movies this whole month so I'll be skipping everything else. Don't cri becus its over, smile bcoz it happeneded.

This is the list in question, compiled by my beautiful gorgeous omega female(ex-)husband king, be sure to check it out if you want to:
https://www.mangago.me/thing/about/936204/

Anyway the movie in question today is the 1982 version of The Thing, there is also a remake from 2011 but that one was a box-office bomb (it #flopped, basically roflmao) so I just decided to watch the better, the OG version. Can we just take a moment to appreciate how pretty the poster is before getting into the review though?

OK moment over now let's get into it: guys this movie was actually pretty scary ngl, it was so creepy and seeing the Thing for the first time, when it was breaking out through the dog spooked me so fucking bad due to it's arachnid-like features it had, the little legs or whatever they were?? THEY WERE SO DISGUSTING OMG, almost decided to nope my way outta watching it. The SFX were really gross but also really freaking great and impressive, I liked them a lot. The characters were all a bit meh though ngl, I didn't much care for any of them, still seeing them die was a bit hard. The ending was a bit bleak too imo, but also strangely fitting? Also content/trigger warning, dogs die in this film too. Anyway I'd rate this like 4/5, it was an interesting watch for sure.

So now that I'm officially done with reviewing movies, I decided to write down all the ratings I gave and to what movie, and also which movies I would recommend you guys to watch (sorted in alphabetical order, from 5 to 1):

5:
- American Psycho (not scary, would recommend)
- Psycho (not scary, would recommend)
- Sinners (not scary, would recommend)

4:
- Get Out (creepy, would recommend)
- Jennifer's Body (not scary, would recommend)
- The Thing (1982 version; SCARY, would recommend)

- Backrooms (not scary, would recommend)
- Carrie (not scary, would recommend)

- Nope (not scary, would recommend)
- Obsession (SCARY, would recommend)
- Perfect Blue (not scary, would recommend)
- Suspiria (1977 version; not scary, unless you like art films I wouldn't recommend this)

2:
- Midsommar (not scary, would not recommend)
- Possession (not scary, unless you like art films I wouldn't recommend this)
- The Silence of the Lambs (not scary, would not recommend [it's boring as fuck])

1:

Me neither, most of them are so incredibly cheesy, and they're usually romances but home alone is okay

Yeah I think I'd prefer them if they didn't revolve around romance, although Christmas movies are just boring to me ngl, even if they didn't have romance as a center plot point. But yes, Home Alone (1 & 2 only tho) are peak.
