In my graduation, I want my mom to walk with me — Not my father nor my grandfather. In my family, if a girl graduates her father and grandfather will walk with her. Indeed, all of them has a significant role in my studies. However, my mom is so much more than what they think she is. I've seen the efforts and sacrifices she's done for me just so I can go safely to school. She find ways to earn money just so she can give me my wants and needs. Everyday, I witness the harsh reality that a woman has to face. Patriarchy is terrible and unfair, "household chores should be a woman's job and so" I've witness different types of ways of degrading and discarding a woman's capability. My mom followed their commands without any complains but when she's finally at her limits she breaks. My mom would do errands they ask her to do, cook heartwarming homemade meals to fill our stomachs, care when we're tired but somehow to them that's just a woman's "job". My mom is not a tool nor a machine but a human being who also has her limits. If she complains how tired she is, she gets compared about how more tiring the other person's work is. They clearly can't see my mom's hard work and value — as a woman myself who's growing and witnessing all of this, I know and I feel my mom's pain. I can't help but fear my future as a woman, I love my mom but I don't want to be like her. I love my dad but I don't want a partner like him. Only when I point out his mistakes he'll realize how much he hurt my mom, he doesn't even listen to her unless another person tells him. My dad is a good father but he's lacking as a husband to my mom. This is just not about graduation stage walk with my family. My mom clearly just wants to be appreciated and loved for the work she's done. I'm scared for my future as a woman, I'd rather be alone than raise my future children with a partner who can't appreciate all of my sacrifices.
