Help me with debate

Ilike_cheesecakes Ilike_cheesecakes 2026-09-19 07:41:49 About question
Hi, I'm a novice and terrible in debating. Ever since i started debating, when ever i do public speaking i start to stutter and it seems like i cannot organize my thoughts. (I'm normally not like that, I'll consider myself mediocre at public speaking i'd say)

Ofc ik y'all are overachievers and ik there's a high probability that some of y'all here are debaters or jus someone who has knowledge about debate and public speaking. Send help, i really want to improve.... please send tips, tricks, knowledge...? everything, I'm begging.

I have a contest that I'll join this october 9-11 and I'll have to prepare and stuff, and i really need help haha

That takes me back to the contest I entered at 17 eesh...

Im not that great of a debater either but I could share some tips that helped me speak more confidently and with less stuttering in general

In a way, speaking requires observing, its just like music, theres a rhythm and a tone that draws people to you, when I had that contest I watched so many online debates on my phone, moreso just to learn how they speak so fluidly and without worry

The truth is, so many good debaters are worried all the time, its just that they're good at masking it with their tone of speaking, if you pay attention, many older debaters pause while speaking, its a few seconds that are unnoticeable for others, but it helps them rearrange their thought process a little better, and allows them the ability to correct themselves on their points.

Personally, I used to watch these debates online and try to mimic it by talking to a wall or any of my pets, once you understand the octave that draws attention, its your stage, somewhat kf and opportunity for you to prove yourself. I talked a lot of gibberish, I came up with this method :

- I will think of a somewhat popular reoccurring debate in our world, for example AI ! I will take a minute to think of my points and how I want to present them, and then I will spent 5 minutes talking to anything I feel confident speaking to, my wall or my pets or even my fan, whatever helps me stay focused. After my five minutes are done, I will think of another debate, this time ome that is less known, think of my points, speak, and repeat.

The idea is that the debate topic will become more niche as I go on, and so it will be harder for you to come up with points against it if you font have the knowledge, this allows you to explore ways of alluding the crowd while you think of better ideas to bring up. Debates are a way of deceiving after all.
