is anyone else tired of smut and pwp in manga/hwa?

for context. I was on it for a long time. without including fanfics on ao3. I consumed alot of filthy shit. I've always (and still am) open about it and accepting of this aspect of myself. I hate puritans and ppl who are judgemental. and love communities that are accepting and open to basically smut.

now fast forward to a few days ago. I started feeling icky about reading smut. I usually have these periods of time but they pass after reading smt plot heavy.

but now I don't even want to touch anything like that. I genuinely feel dreadful at the idea of reading any of it?
so I thought I might as well go all the way and stop it all together. an experiment of sorts. to see how would this affect me and my life.
is there other people like me? I want an outsider perspective I guess?

so I have a close friend and I previously thought he was gay. he always tells me about his dates with guys and his relationships.

long story short, after acting strange around me for six months he told me he has feelings for me?
I've never been more confused in my life. I don't want to hurt his feelings so I told him to give me time to think. but i don't think i can date him since he clearly has a preference. is this homophobic of me?

I'm already mourning my friendship with him.

I want a REALLY specific experience and I have no idea who to ask.
basically i want to watch/read smt that was not tagged as romance and i didn't know there's a romance in it. maybe it's fantasy/ adventure/ slice of life whatever it was. maybe it follows a set of characters or just two idk. and as the story progresses more I start to root for the two and bam they end up together. the thing is I was expecting it to be not a romance so this IS a surprise.
does anyone have any recs like this? books or movies or shows or anything really. ik i would miss the of element of surprise romance since I'm asking for it now. but if anyone has smt similar to what I'm looking for (romance that comes second to the plot and then two characters that seems unlikely to end up together BUT THEY DO) I'll be grateful

there i said it. idc come at me with your pitchforks all you want. it's plot is so outdated. I've read 106 BL manga from 2008 that have the exact same old ass plot of a decade old situationship. they just bang. act insufferable to eathoother and then ice skate for like two seconds. both the characters are literally so annoying (the banging is hot af tho ng wich is the only good thing about the show)
the west is only now experience what we bl manga consumers experienced and got over ages ago. and seeing people saying this is the epitome of queer romance is annoying af. that shit will not hold a singe candle to a well written bl.

the summer my balls died or smt did irrevocable damage to the yaoi genre. why do authors now think I want the twink in my yaoi to turn into a disgusting monster after getting railed sideways???

what I'm angry about is how they use the trope that I love (slutty and flirty bottoms) like bitch go use annoying tsundere I'm StRiGht tho in your horror yaoi!!

i watched a story time video of one of my favourite Youtubers about how she met her fiance and how he proposed. it was so whimsical and beautiful (I don't believe anything on the internet. but the story adds up to what I know about the Youtuber) he built her a damn pond and a boat and purposed like that scene from tangled. I'm SO happy for her but at the same time. when is my turn I want somone who matches my freak too

I hate using goodreads to track manga since they don't have everything. and I just don't like the look of manga volumes drowning the books I read. all my read manga are here but it feels like a matter before it got taken down (JUST THE THOUGHT IS SAD) and I can't use excel for shit. any other option?
