Not to say that there aren't LBGT+ "fujoshi"s but a majority of you are straight girls, let's be honest.

As a gay man, I can't really wrap my head around why anyone would refer to it, in some cases, as "closet fujioshi" or "coming out as fujioshi to my friends/family"

It's not a sexuality. It's an interest/hobby. It's not something people even need to know, actually. It's not part of your identity- it isn't what makes you whole, it isn't what makes you, "you"- (and if it is somehow your entire identity, you're probably 13 lol) A sexuality determines not only how people view you, but what sort of harassment you go through and basically your entire life.

I live in the Southern US, in the bible belt. That might give you a clue what I'm talking about.

Yeah. I get it. It (being a "fujioshi") could be "embarrassing" or "shameful" but.. that's.. because the content is gay content. You know, the sort of gay that's shamed in real life.
It's also basically telling people you like gay porn (imagine someone telling you "I LOVE PORN/HENTAI" yeah, you sound just like that, if that's something you're put off by)
Unless you specifically specify you just like romance, between all genders, then people will go "yaoi? yeah that's Gay Porn but Anime flavored"

What I'm trying to say is; y'all, stop acting like it's a sexuality, or that you're "coming out"
You aint' comin' out of nowhere. Go back in your bedroom and quietly read your gay smut and don't bother telling your parents 'cause they either don't give a shit, or they'll think you're weird for even telling them. As for telling your friends, by all means. Let them weaboos know that you like boys kissin' (but it's not coming out. it's simply mentioning an interest.)

Sincerely, someone whose probably too old to be lecturing what is likely a bunch of 13~18 year olds on this website.
