I don't think it's the fact that a lot of characters have it that is the problem, it's more the fact that it's not treated seriously. If it wasn't used as just a thing that the character has gone thru but touched in a more serious light it wouldn't be a big problem. A lot of us probably have nostalgia because I reread some of my favorites from when I first started reading BL and it really isn't as good as I remember. I still look at them with fond memories though. (Like back in the day they were a 10/10 but now I would say a 7 or 8 out of 10).
