Ok I’ve found new petty things to complain about and I’m bored.
-Female mc with bangs or ponytail like why are there so many female mc with bangs or ponytail in modern romance ? Is it easier to draw ? Whatever the reason is I’m tired of it, let it go.
-Tears lick like EEWWWWW. Korea and Japan has some serious explaining to do, why are there so many ml licking the tears of their crying lover ? What about a hug to confort them ? Taking their hand or giving them a tissue to wipe their tears ? No. They have lick it. Gross.
-I don’t get why grown people blushes and make a big deal out of holding hands…is there any truth to it ? I found it ridiculous when they have dating experiences and are in their thirties and blushes and make a big deal out of that… it might actually happen to some but there are just to many it’s super repetitive.
-Manhwa author using bought background. LAZY, BORING, UNCREATIVE, SHAMEFUL.
-lack of historical settings and male leads with long hair. Won’t elaborate.
-Bullying. Hear me out ! I know it’s a real issue in South Korea but is there a country in which it’s not an issue ? I think they just take it more seriously than other countries (rightfully so) like there are too many stories with mc being bullied or in action manhwas mc was a bullying victim and now he’s a super strong self insert etc. Sometimes the bullying part brings nothing to the story it’s just there and it’s weird like I don’t know how to explain it, like a fetish ? Idk anyways We get it bullying is an issue but can we tone it down a bit ?
-oh and the same goes for cult plot in manhwas. We get it the country has a cult issue.
-Making the 2nd ml too pitiful in romance. Like he lives in the shittiest apartment, abusive parents and or drunkard or an orphan, no meaningful friendship, nothing he just has mc and can’t have them…while ml is rich, has good grades, plenty of friends and his parents…that’s just not right to me. (Btw I’m talking about you operation true love ! You’ll pay for dohwa)
-cover bait ! You will see the most beautiful cover with amazing and original art and then you click on the first chapter and it’s your basic isekai art sometimes uglier. How dare you scam people like that ?
-Talking about art, changing your art style less than 30 chapters in ??? I’m not talking about improving but changing the artstyle ! And often to something basic too like what was the purpose ?
-bad pacing especially in manhwas.
-writers that can’t write romance that will force romance in a story and I’m a romance truther ! I usually want romance in every stories ! But some people are just not good at it, I’m not good at and it’s fine I accepted it and just don’t add romance to my stories. Please stop ruining and dragging good stories with a bad romance arc.
-Too oblivious mc. the guy is in front of you acting like a loser, getting jealous of the food entering your mouth, following you around like a stalker and illuminating like the sun as soon as you open your mouth to talk to them but they’re not in love with you ? Not realistic to me since I think that any guys that make eye contact or smile in my direction wants to get married.

Has anyone noticed that recently there has been a flood of manhwas with good arts, good overall plot idea but the writing is just awful. Like the characters have no real personality, lots of nonsensical stuff happening, lots of self inserting, bad and cringe dialogues, everything is going too fast it’s hard to follow and root for the characters bc you barely know them, no build-ups. No nothing except good arts. We still have good stories but I just hate to see good arts wasted in a bad story.
I’m mostly talking about straight romance. I’m not that much into bl but I think there is the same issue.

Do you guys read books ? Like non comics, mangas, manhwas and manhuas books, like novel, biography, books about politics ? I stopped reading « books » a long time ago now and I want to read books again. Do you guys have recommandations ? It could be any kind of book but I’m mostly interested in political, psychological, sociological, non-romance fiction and sci-fi. I’m actually open to everything except those self development books, romance and anything bigoted. Thanks !

I just wanted to share my pettiest pet peeves bc I wanted to rant and I also rarely see actual petty pet peeves.
1. Mc sucking at school. Not relatable (to me) and annoying bc they go back and forth between a hundred ml but can’t bother opening a book and properly study ? It’s even worse if they end up studying last minute and just get perfect score and having their dream college.
2. School festival and sports day ITS BORING ! It’s boring and OVERDONE I have to let a deep sigh everytime and why are they doing this in college ?
3. Bad fashion, I won’t elaborate bc it’s silly.
4. Characters with no backbone like are you gonna let bitch n.6478 walk all over you and just let them off with a half assed apology ?
5. Characters with no lips like thank god in manhwas it’s going out of fashion but still and btw droopy eyes as well.
6. Romance with 200+ chapters like it’s over just let it go bruh
7. I like Cinderella plots but some really go overboard like why are you drawing mc with holes in their socks and shirt, their ceiling is leaking and there is mold on the wall in front of their multi millionaire friend/future lover ? Why don’t you let them have a bit of dignity ?

Ok, for the ones of you that didn’t see it yesterday someone asked what was the opinion on the scandal about several kpop idols watching/reading made in abyss and recommending it to fans. And it actually got me thinking. Like a lot. About the media we consume both as manga/anime (and even manhwas).
I answered the question and said that we had to have a conversation about it. So now, I actually want to have a real, respectful conversation about it. That said if you’re just gonna brush people concerns off or say « who cares losers » just don’t comment. Like just ignore it because it won’t add anything to the conversation.
I would like to start with the fact that I never watched or read made in abyss and all those out of context screenshots (especially of the manga) disturbed me like I think it’s disgusting. Honestly if I come across this in a manga I wouldn’t be able to just scroll past it I would have to drop it, it’s too weird. But I know some people can and do. I don’t think that everyone reading/watching and enjoying it are pedos. I can understand that the story apart from that can be great and that’s what you enjoy and decide to ignore the weird stuff. But is that actually okay ? Like I’ve seen people say that the author is a creep and a pedo. I think you can never separate the artist from the art because the artist will put some of their ideas and in this case fetish in it. It might be subtle but they will do it regardless. I know what I’m talking about as a writer I can’t help but be biased and put my personal ideas and feelings in what I write. And the fact that you consume that even if you think that you’re not supporting the author, is it okay ? Is it okay just scrolling past naked children that are being sexualised or tortured ? Is it okay watching and purchasing the story and recommending it to people that will do the same and make the author richer ? Is it okay to make him think that what he’s doing is fine ? I don’t think so. But that’s my opinion.
The manga/anime community is super desensitised to violence, sexual assault and pedophilia. It’s hard to admit but me included. Like even I scroll past think i don’t condone but keep reading sometimes like when I see teenagers being sexualised in action manga or manhwa. And sometimes I don’t even realise that weird stuff are happening while watching an anime or reading a manga. I saw people mention other exemples of sexualisation of kids in anime and manga and I didn’t even realise it till it was pointed out. And that’s now but when I was younger I could read anything without being fazed by it. I took a break from reading manga and webtoon for like two years except for stuff I was already reading and a few shoujo and it’s after that break that I realised that some stuff were fucked up and I shouldn’t have been reading that. Like there are so many romance between teacher/student, adult/minor, too much grooming, too much sexualisation of women and children, too much weird torture and we just read past it. The thing is during that break I entered my twenties and with maturity you realise stuff but even with age some people seem to not understand that it’s weird ? Like would you show all those stuff to your family ? Friends ? Classmate/coworkers ? I don’t think so and that’s telling.
And I talked about the anime manga and webtoon community but it’s not the only one honestly. Like I was watching show like game of thrones, skins or American horror story at like 13 which is also part of the reason why I was so desensitised to violence/torture and rape. It’s a real problem with media consumption in general but the anime/manga community seems to be the most reluctant to talk about it…maybe because too many edgy wannabes are in the community.

Is it me or lots of manhwas are either ending or going into hiatus ? Like the past few weeks I’ve seen so many manhwas on here and on webtoons either going on hiatus or ending. And some are ending with like 50 chapters while some stuff have 400+ chapters and just keep dragging (I’m talking about those action manhwas). So many stories ending at the same time makes me kinda melancholic.
