You shouldn't hit anybody, it wouldn't make you better than them. However, of course abusive behavior is suffocating. I think your dad is tired and frustrated. My father is selfish and wants everything his way and has no patience whatsoever, yells pretty often making the house heated, so I can relate somehow. Just don't say anything when he yells, ......
