I once rode a motorbike during a depression, with a very long distance, more than 100 km. This takes about four to five hours if I'm not mistaken, because sometimes it gets stuck. And my ass hurt so much afterwards. Since then I was wary and better to drive my car and i try not to get depressed. I do not want to ride a motorcycle for a distance of 100 km if there is no cause and purpose. What? With full baggage? That is the worst condition.

Both :) First I started with going alone around my neighborhood on weekends - like travel as far as I can and come back home for the night. Sometimes I even planed a very long route with coming back by train or bus. Then, me and my new boyfriend decided - lets try to reach the sea by bike! it was like 800 km and our first trip together. We planned the whole route (daily travel, found inns to stay the night etc..) ..we followed the plan for only one day and decided on more explorer /adventure mode :) It was so much fun! There always was someone who would offer a sleeping place - like even if there was no inn in a countryside the shop owners were usually business men enough to rent a room for unexpected guests etc. We reached the sea, had wonderful time and feelt that we achieved something awesome !! Next holidays it was "lets bike along eastern border" then "lets bike through Chech republic" etc.... We found out that some countries have very good bike roads - like in the woods without traffic, with special inns for bikers etc...and some dont :) There are even international routes done by http://www.eurovelo.org/ to connect the whole continent! We wanted to take like a year off to travel American route one day going from Alaska to Chile ...but we broke up before it :< Once I meet a guy who had traveled alone form Europe to Korea by bike... He was totally change by the ravel he told us....
