Set in early 20th century France, Claudine...! follows the story of a transgender man into adulthood. He struggles through life, being the first child after three older brothers to take after his father, and is constanly misgendered by those around him. He wants only to be able to find true love...
Some printings contain the oneshot "Zuraika," which has not been scanlated.
despite the issues of misgendering and a generalised old sensitivity to questions of gender, the story is peak and confirms Ikeda's talent in constructing complex characters that inhabit a world that is often hostile and uncomprehending.
the tags are so gross, "yuri" "shoujo-ai" claude is a man. people shouldn't even be using the term shoujo-ai in the first place, considering that the term refers to pedophilia when used in japan.
Oh god... This became all dark depressing in the end for no reason. Claude deserved better. He had been a wonderful man his whole life, it truly broke me when cicilia said "but you're a girl" this happened to me multiple times and it doesn't fail to rain down on me how I can never be 'natural' and 'real' man. I, too have an older brother and it shows me how much my life would've been better only if I were born with a male body, and just how confident I could've been. But I love that it still didn't stop Claude from living his life, being smart, falling in love and making friends. If only he could've been accepted for the lovely respectable man he is and be loved like one. It was truly a too tragic ending.
Okay, this is so good, it is so hard to be a transgender person that time because not everyone respects it. As a person that is under the trans umbrella, this is so relatable, because even my parents still sees me as a girl, I just endure it. I also hate people telling me that I was born in the wrong body, and I have imperfect body. Also, I hate the fact that people tagged this as "shoujo ai" CLAUDE IS A BOY, HE IS A STRAIGHT MAN, and the author still portrays Claude as a woman, it's just not right.
