-2 stars bc ch 3.5 is fucking horrible. the seme wants uke to go through surgery so that they can have sex but he had been cheating on him bc he couldn’t keep it in his pants. even the surgery is very high risk and all he could think about is that they could have sex without uke dying? fuck it
It's a good book...apart from the main story, which I like a great deal, there are two short stories, one in each volume...the story at the end of vol. 2 'Our Everlasting' is continued in a sequel (book) called 'Kurumi no Naka'.
With the exception of two short manga thrown in the mix, the main story follows the romantic adventures (and misadventures) of a gay college student who has fallen in love his surfer classmate. Years ago he confessed while he thought he was asleep, but it turns out the surfer heard him and has been trying to return his feelings ever since. But having been burned by a 'straight' boyfriend before (remember this is yaoiverse where bisexuality isn't a thing), he willfully misreads the repeated confessions as a joke.
One thing I liked a lot about this manga is that the couple get together quite early on, and the rest of the story deals with the trials and tribulations that come about from their personalities and life circumstances. While there is definitely a lot of drama in their relationship, somehow this story still felt fresh. As with this mangaka's other works, the personalities of the main couple are nuanced, and the conflicts in their relationship feel like they might occur in any relationship (particularly the worries about following different life paths). Additionally their dynamic as a couple reads as genuinely friendly and intimate - you know, like the way two close friends who had been pining for one another might interact if they became a couple. This is a quality I don't see so often in friends-to-lovers manga. Additionally, the uke enjoys sex and the seme becomes flustered more easily than the uke does (!). While the art is nothing to write home about, this story is definitely worth your time. See below for CW.
****CW**** There is implied rape in the main couple when one of them is jealous and angry. It's an odd moment in the manga and really out of character and tone for the story as a whole - particularly since the sex otherwise is enthusiastically consensual. It's a one-off thing and isn't really addressed. It didn't ruin the story for me, but honestly it was so bizarre given the maturity and relative realism of the rest of the writing that it took this manga from 4 to 3 stars. It didn't ruin my enjoyment of it, but it is there. Additionally there is blackmail in one of the shorts. But even with all of this, I do recommend this manga if these things won't bother you.
I would have love this story way more if the they won't decide out from the start that if someone is gay, he will hit on the main guy from their first meeting or the opposite, that teacher just decided just cause his boyfriend like girls he will dump him. what stupid! cause he's not Straight if he can have sex with the main guy, that just not how it work, he's Bi! and just cause he liked girls before, don't mean he can't love him now! I do not know if this is a problem in translation or it in the manga itself. but it still annoying.
