The ending was confusing and left a lot of things unresolved. Yes I get that the monster kuro merged with coco but the ending still felt unfinished after the world building we got. Also i didnt like how the author drew the girls.
unsettlingly cute story yet so dark at the same time,, even the ‘kuro’ is not the real one,, he still protecting her from the monster and always be there for coco,, like this one
that was so good!! i would rate it a 6/5 stars if i could, def a new favorite. imagine a slice of life about a girl with her pet cat except the pet cat is not actually her pet cat and she's living in a world with mysterious black monsters which she cannot see.
i was expecting the mysteriously-cute-but-dark vibes from the maker of Shadow House and bOY did this deliver. It does remind me a lot of A Girl From The Other Side (Totsukuni No Shoujo), so if you enjoyed this go check that out too!! the story is set in the eyes of an oblivious, cheery little girl and so the story seems less dark than it actually is. also, throughout the whole story, it has that innocent vibe with much, MUCH darker undertones. i expected to cry halfway through and haha now i seriously feel my eyes misting up. this was perfect in all ways. first off, the SUSPENSE OH MY GOD because we -the audience- know that kuro is no normal cat by any means, and that this is no normal mansion setting. but alas our poor mc stays blissfully unaware, and it's so interesting to see the story develop as we learn more about the amnesia that's been inflicted on her, the black monsters she cannot see, and kuro just being not a normal black cat. it's really actually fluffier and cuter than i would expect, but in the ends bring out the tissues because the flashbacks that happen randomly throughout the story? those MEAN something. the beginning was suspenseful and mysterious and cute, but in the end the answers we get are stunning and very, very worth the wait. also, the side characters??? the doctor, milk, etc?? their personalities were all executed wonderfully, and i would DEFINITELY not mind a spinoff for answering some of my other... burning questions about this mysterious world. Because even as the ending was satisfying, i still want more!!
but can we first talk about that worldbuilding though.... damn. the black monsters and the townspeople's paranoia are executed perfectly. chefs kiss. muah. i could not love it more. the art is the final thing i want to mention- and god THE ART! it drew me in and it was so detailed, and really helped to set a mood for this fantastic story. also, you'll get a pleasant surprise when you see MANY of the panels are colored- and colored beautifully i may add.
Whooo boy. That was a more confusing [At some point you're going to have to stop naming your cats Kuro - I couldn't figure out if this was a new cat or what] (and happy?!) end than I was expecting [considering all the tragic past hints they kept flashbacking]. Overall though: Coco and her black "cat" Kuro are utterly adorable. Definitely spooky in places. But still adorable.
