I was loving the story right until the end. Kaoru is the heir to a yakuza clan and his childhood friend Hyakkei is a tattoo artist who meet again after 10 years. On their last summer of high school both guys give into their feelings for one another but due to regret or whatever they distance themselves from one another.
Now Kaoru is set to lead the clan and wants a tattoo so who does he get but the guy he left behind, Hyakkei. After being together again they both realize nothing has changed and want to be together even though Kaoru is trying to fight it.
I don't like cheating and I had lies in general so when Kaoru says he has to get married for succession or whatever that's it relationship over or that's the way it should be. I was disgusted that there was a plan to keep seeing each other and for the wife to be miserable. Come on, your a yakuza you can probably pay a woman to have your baby and get lost or something. Either be together or don't but don't drag some unknown person in the middle of your crap. However, this is all hypothetical cause it hasn't happened but it still pissed me off.
The end was kind of uncertain and sad. Kaoru and Hyakkei have admitted their feelings and are together, but not really. They are hiding their relationship, can only see each other once a month, and can not have a proper open relationship like going on dates and such. That was sad I'm hoping for an update or something where they can finally be out in the open together.
Ahhhh ... such a bittersweet story. The art is splendid though ! I really liked it, and thought it more on the mature side as opposed to some of the fluff meant for a younger audience. Well done !
