The beginning is a typical absurd yaoi bet but it gets better later on when u get to know the characters better. The uke is competitive and drowning in self-hatred while the seme is outgoing, popular and talented. He turns out to be better than I thought and helps the uke. It's sad tho that their backstory is just a side note, it sounds interesting and would've given the story more depth.

Edit (Spoiler): The hate was one-sided, the seme's been in love with the uke for a long time.
The uke only hated him because he was always better than him and the uke's parents hated him for being only the second best.
The uke quit his job because his boyfriend who worked with him dumped him to get married.
All that shit made Shu despise himself and get flashbacks. He really was surrounded by toxic people before.
