I’m really fond of this which is why I hate it.

Partners follows six gay swingers, each in a committed relationship with another man, set in 1990s New York. Though they often get together for play parties, they’re dedicated to their individual partners.

It’s more realistic in its portrayal of the gay BDSM scene and there are multiple points in which the level of honesty and communication needed to maintain their relationships is displayed.

It’s a very mature work and reads as though it could go on for a number of volumes, which is disappointing since i became invested in the more pedestrian side of each of their relationships: Lewis’ body dysmorphia, Randy’s football career as a closeted gay man and his commitment and anger issues, Phil and Randy’s rocky relationship, Marlon and Dougs’ day jobs at the same office, and Marlon’s bedroom troubles mentioned by Lewis.

With that in mind, I was disappointed with how Doug’s jealousy was portrayed. I like that he and Marlon have conflicting feelings about one another being alone with the other men— it could have made for a very intimate conversation about boundaries, monogamy and their commitment to each other.

Instead, Doug feels pressured into lying about being interested in sleeping with Charlie in front of everyone and hypocritically takes his jealous rage out on Marlon for being interested in Lewis- which sucks because it was a very tender moment in which Marlon affirms Lewis's attractiveness and this just abandoned in favor of Dougs hissyfit.

In the same chapter, Phil says he’d like to try more gentle sex with Doug, and Randy snarkily apologizes for being too rough.

Regardless it’s a very hot and surprisingly tender story that I just wish was much longer.

man, idk how to feel about this one. i didn’t love the art or the characters, but seeing how this is almost 30 years old piece, i can’t really bring myself to tear it down. i did like the main couple, except maybe for a few scenes where i felt like the consent wasn’t fully there. i did like the bdsm portrayal, you usually only get watered down bondage nowadays and call it a day. and as for the open relationships.. i think it could have been made more clear that this is not the standard for queer couples, that even when someone might be in an open relationship is completely able to have a monogamous one as well(obvi on different occasion),, but at the same time, i’m glad that the relationships here were mostly healthy and loving, despite what ppl might think. and!!!loved the mention of frequent testing and still using protection,,, that’s never seen in any new mangas, let alone a manga this old!

I don't know How I feel about it.. hence didn't rate it at all..
I ain't so fond of BDSM play bt I'm okay with it as long as both parties have consent, know their partner's limits, and treasure each other in a romantic way, not only in a sexual way.. so at the beginning I was enjoying the story, until they turned out to be swingers and started sharing partners.. Especially Doug, it was clear he wasn't into the idea of sharing his partner as well as playing with other's partner.. he was obviously uncomfortable and jealous bt couldn't speak up as a part of the group probably bcz he's too soft and gentle a guy to refuse others,, we see it how he follows Charlie after Charlie acts hurt when Doug refused him before ..and he easily gives in to pressure,, you see the scene where even though he doesn't want to yet he fists his partner just bcz others want him to do so.. he's too soft to the point of useless..
at this point my monogamous soul doesn't actually know how "healthy" their group is..
Ohh and I was only interested in D&M's story, how their relationship develops, their affection and attraction for each other.. I truly enjoyed the story apart from those I mentioned earlier and want to read about that one couple more and more.. other than that only character I find interesting is Lewis, the doc.. apart from these three, all the others were either boring, or annoying..

This was heavy; in a sense that this won't appeal to regular yaoi fans. The story was to heavy in BDSM and the nature of sharing/multiple partners in the characters relationship won't sit right with the usual rose-tinted, female pov yaoi.

Started reading this at about 11:40 AM on Sat. Feb. 9, 2019, and then finished an hour later. Healthy and realistic depiction of BDSM. Friends who share the BDSM desires and are okay with doing each other. Communication is highlighted. A good BDSM read :))

This won't be for everyone. It's written as bdsm yaoi but for gay men not really bara. It totally counts as bara but everything in the style to the action in here is a homosexual fantasy story. I don't really think the promiscuity is the loveless kind you see in some yaoi it's more realistic to long term couples in a world where staying in the closet is forced on them not a choice. They can't be open in public so they take out their frustration by being more open in private. It's like if Mapplethorpe wrote yaoi lol

I wanted to give it no stars but that was just my personal beliefs. I hate fisting it's disgusting and I don't believe in open relationships. If you make a commitment to someone you need to be faithful. I personally could not watch my partner being done by someone else and I can't see myself doing someone and feeling good or turned on knowing the person I love is watching.

Im not really into bondage, but I like this story line.

I've read several bara manga, and while I'm not particularly attracted to those, the BDSM in this one is truly special ! It centers solely around bondage and sex games ! wheeeeee !!! :D
