This series is gaining popularity, which is good news for Junko-sensei. But I really wish she wasn't so blatantly disinterested in keeping allegiances to her targeted demographic - that is, if she were interested in doing Shoujo, why capitalize on a shoujo that has BL themes. In doing so, she successfully pins down and keeps her old BL fan base, but inflames both her new and old audience by creating a story of a shallow caliber unfitting of Josei (women's comics), but with an obviously josei framework because of the homosexual undertones. I think that this story was a very interesting concept, but was executed in poor taste. I feel rather taken advantage of as a reader, and I honestly find myself disliking what this series stands for and all that it unearths about the manga industry itself: that it takes a BL artist subduing the caliber and quality of her stories and switching to straight fiction for her to reach popularity. Ever since Kasa no Shita, Futari was followed by Recipe no Oujisama (A cute and warm-intended, but definitely over-saturated-with-fanservice-type series), Junko sensei has definitely been taking a turn for the worst, for me.

Concerning the actual story, it is entirely unappealing to have a female character who is coveted only after her appearance reflects the genuine beauty of her heart. Also, airheaded protagonists only further fuel stereotypes of the docile, clumsy but moe image of the perfect womanly design in Japan; this is a fact about female characters that I find completely unappealing. In this story the protagonist is designed in a nauseatingly two-dimensional way, keeping with these aesthetic stereotypes - I obviously did not find this aspect of the story refreshing nor well constructed in the least, ESPECIALLY considering a few years back Junko-sensei was on my radar of up-and-coming mangaka. As one of her old readers, I am incredibly dissatisfied with the force-fed, predictable nature of shoujo plotlines, which she certainly does not stray from in this very episodic story progression - Hibiki Wataru and Arina Tanemura are two of many shoujo artists that worked to make their series something that pushed far beyond standard for shoujo, a demographic of which it is typical to find that the romance is the only thing in the story that actually has and arc of movement. I feel as though Junko, especially in observance of her long-time fans and the fact that she uses BL themes, should have shifted her story to be a bit more revolutionary in terms of plotting, instead of riding on the laurels of a "regular shojo scheme" in order to gain popularity and maybe a few laughs a long the way. I KNOW she can do better, and that is why I am so critical of this work.

Choose Mutsumi-senpai!!!!arghhhh!!! senpaaaaai!!
I know that this is supposed to be a reverse harem but I have a feeling that the author is pushing it for Igarashi. It's true that he's really in love with Serinuma now and it's not just for because of her appearance but...

I'm seriously rooting for Mutsumi-senpai, the only one of the four guys who has been in love with Serinuma even when she was still chubby!! I really want them to end up together!

Definitely some fatphobia in this but the guy she ends up with is not fatphobic, and the romance is honestly so sweet. My only gripe is that Serunima is too much of an airhead.

Honestly, used to love this series a whole lot. But the only reason the guys actually started liking her (expect for the dude she ends up with and the blue haired girl, l0ve her) is because she up to "beauty standards." Insulting to say the least. This was cute but len cant stand this body shame type of deal. Youre ideal no matter what and you shouldnt let other think otherwise.

However, one aspect of this narrative that I dislike is that she is very obsessed with BL (Boy's Love), and she ships her male classmates to each other. The entire program consists of her and her friend fetishizing mlm which worries me out because people who act like them exist in real life. In my perspective, it's a disturbing narrative, especially for BL fans who think it's acceptable to act in this manner.

It was cute, especially the ending for a high school manga it was a very good one. Also like the addition of "seven years later" because it would have weirded me out if they got married in college when they only knew each other for 2 years. I thought the ending kept the message of finding someone who likes who you are and not how you look.

Spoiler:
Mutsumi-senpai was the only one who knew it was Serinuma and knew of her hobbies before everyone else. I am really happy the mangaka paired them together. Also I am happy this has an actual pairing because a lot of reverse harem manga's don't or have one that is the jerk.

I just love Kae-chan as MC - she's authentic and true to herself - even before she transformed and attracted the attention of other guys, she was self-assured and contented. She's indeed a ball of sunshine. I love her!
