I had really mixed feelings about this one. It started with such an interesting premise surrounding her escape and her toxic relationship with Rahich, but eventually the plot became so much bigger that I felt like it lost what originally made it compelling. I don’t mind when a story reveals that a smaller conflict is part of something much larger, but bigger stakes don’t always make a story more interesting. I honestly think this would’ve been much more compelling if it stayed condensed around her escape, their relationship, and whether something that started so toxically could ever actually become healthy.

I also didn’t understand the need for so many other men to fall for her when we all knew she was going to end up with Rahich anyway. They basically just had to #cope while she chose the man who spent half the story trying his hardest to gruesomely murder all of them. It felt like everyone else had to suffer just to add more conflict to a relationship that already had plenty of it.

Toxic love story that eventually becomes healthy? Yes, yippie, how wonderful! Toxic love story that drags everyone else into it along the way? No, ‘cause it’s still toxic!
