Meh. I didn't care much for this.
The plot is relatively simple. Desperate to hurry and graduate after taking a hit to his reputation due to his aggressive, no-nonsense-tolerating personality, Chan-Yang recruits people for his group project. Ha-Gyeol joins the group, and they all quickly go out for drinks.
After their night out had ended, Chan-Yang, being tipsy, finds Ha-Gyeol suspicious and so follows him into an alleyway instead of going home. He ends up seeing Ha-Gyeol standing over someone, wrench in hand, attempting to take out their teeth. Chan-Yang freaks out and kicks him in the groin before Ha-Gyeol can explain himself, but regardless, they end up going back to a hotel and Ha-Gyeol explains everything—he's possessed by a magpie spirit who collects teeth, and he needs to collect a specific type of tooth to exorcize the spirit out of him. And Chan-Yang has the exact type of tooth he needs.
Chan-Yang doesn't believe it, but despite everything, and mostly chalked up to him being tipsy, he finds Ha-Gyeol attractive. They end up sleeping together. The next day, Ha-Gyeol 'caws' in front of their class, which convinces him that the spirit possession is true . . . For some reason. And so he agrees to help him find someone else who has the tooth type he needs, with him being able to take his own if all else fails.
Okay so there are a few issues I have. First of all, I don't understand what it was that made Chan-Yang believe in the spirit possession. With Ha-Gyeol 'caw'ing in front of everyone, I assumed that sleeping with Chan-Yang rather than taking his tooth made him only be able to speak like a bird. But then he speaks to his other classmates fine, so it's evidently not that. I also briefly thought that maybe Chan-Yang can only hear him speak as a bird, but that was also proven to not be it when Ha-Gyeol very quickly talks to him normally. So to me, it looks like Chan-Yang just believes him for . . . Well, no reason, really. He just suddenly does. I guess the second-hand embarrassment of going 'caw' in front of an entire class is proof enough? I don't know. Maybe something's gone over my head.
(Okay so it turns out something did go over my head. Him immediately believing it just because of the 'caw' was odd, but the wider context was that Ha-Gyeol was acting like a bird randomly due to the bird possessing him. I mean, it still makes me question why Chan-Yang actually believed it rather than just assuming Ha-Gyeol was eccentric, or exaggerating to try and get his tooth for whatever real reason, but the issue with him believing it for no reason isn't really without reason. I just think it was executed poorly. But this also brings a new problem with it: Ha-Gyeol acts like a bird that one time. There's a small montage where he caws, pecks at his food like a bird, and sits on a campus street light while saying he can fly . . . And that's it. No other bird actions show up ever again. The story establishes that his behavior is escalating beyond his control, that the longer he has the bird spirit within him, the more he acts like a bird . . . But that's just not what happens).
The second thing I didn't like was how quickly everything moved. The whole bird issue is fixed very suddenly in a believe chapter six. Chapter six . . . Out of eight. The story wasn't long to begin with, but the whole spirit possession thing was interesting and could've had so much more done with it. On top of being short, the conclusion is also very underwhelming. For context, Chan-Yang's tooth is the one he needs specifically because of the period Chan-Yang was born. In chapter six, a classmate of the two of them randomly loses a tooth, and he just so happened to be born in the same period as Chan-Yang. Ha-Gyeol takes the tooth and then that's it. Spirit's gone. You don't see a scene of the spirit leaving; it's not a "moment." Ha-Gyeol just comments that the spirit's no longer there and that's it.
Chapters seven and eight are cute enough, though. Chapter seven has the two guys realizing they don't have enough time to complete their assignment project, so they get discouraged and stressed. Chan-Yang realizes they simply don't have motivation, and they need a goal or reward beyond merely graduating. So, Chan-Yang says Ha-Gyeol can take his virginity if they pass (despite his virginity already being taken by Ha-Gyeol, but whatever). As you could probably guess, they end up completing the project, and then they have sex. Chapter eight just has the two of them being a little antsy about their relationship and what exactly they are. After they sleep together, Ha-Gyeol asks if this means they're dating, and Chan-Yang is basically like, "Why would that mean we're dating?" Ha-Gyeol takes the rejection gracefully, but Chan-Yang very quickly realizes it's not that he doesn't want to date him, but rather, he's just worried that once they graduate and no longer have the project binding them together, then really what's keeping Ha-Gyeol by his side? He was worried about being cast aside after a while, but eventually the two of them understand they both like each other and they end the story as a couple.
