It's a bit confusing but he was filming two films at the same time with the same director, right? One where he was the stunt double for the actor and one where he got his own part? I hope he filmed enough of the second film and they kept him in the final cut

He’s a stunt double in a mafia movie. And on that set he gets offered a role for a historical film. I assume the director wrapped up the progress for the mafia movie, but was preparing his next shoot. (I assume it’s an accelerated timeline to streamline the plot)
